I’m hoping to get lucky and get some late dropping dolgo seedlings.
I’ll have a good variety regardless, but I don’t think it is possible to have too much food in winter.

When we left home after Christmas, I had two dolgo seedlings still holding a few fruit. Time will tell if they hold that late every year or not

my youngest son was helping me burn some brush last night behind my house while we were reducing competition around a nice wild crabapple tree. I was impressed by the late hanging fruit on a wild crabapple and my all winter hangover crab. I told my kids I’ll pay them $2 for each seedling apple tree they can grow 12” tall. My youngest son filled his pockets with mushy fruit and then my sons picked them apart at home to get the seeds. My daughter wants in on the deal as well, so she will help with planting later this spring. my standard wild crabapples often hold fruit late, so I think seedlings from and of my trees in this back orchard could be good. Time will tell, but I’m happy that my kids are giving it a shot.

My initial offer for them was $1/tree, so they should take the $2 and be happy!
I have about 35 apple trees I'll be planting this spring, so I'm good this year but I do need more trees in future years. I'd really like to add another 25 per year for the next decade if possible and I'm hoping this is a way to get some quality seedlings.

If you add that many trees for the next decade or so it will be one impressive property.

I like the idea of putting in work now that can pay off for decades much more than the thought of doing annual food plots when I'm older. My place has the rolling topography and soil that is well suited for growing apple trees, so it is worth a shot.

When we drove through your area on the way down here, I was reminded of parts of SW WI. Lots of apples are grown in SW WI. I know of a few guys growing persimmons in that part of WI too. You may want to contact Ryan at Bluehill and see what he thinks about persimmons at your place

Our new place is only 20 miles from the Iowa border, so if they can grow anywhere in Minnesota they should grow there.

I'm trialing a few of his, I don't expect much but a guy never knows. Down by you I'd think you have a real chance at getting some fruit

Charlie Morse’s Bunches crabs that he used to pedal. You would be better off buying Red Splendor Seedlings or Dolgo seedlings from you Soil and Water Conservation District.

Kerr crab. I need to remove some lower branches and make a smaller cage so the deer can access the crabs.

Those bunch crabs look similar to a number of the wild crabapples that grow by my house.

Dolgo seedling I call Clown’s nose. Even with all of the red cedars behind it, CAR has not been a serious problem. The deer have matted down the grass around the cage.

Another dolgo seedling that I call the Buckman crab. I know you have all seen it before.
