Because of the drought I haven't been mowing much. I've got oaks popping up all over the place on my trails, foodplots, and wildflower plots I was planting a flower my wife got from the nursery in Vermont. There was a small white oak growing in it so I extracted that and potted it. I’ll plant that on my land next weekend.

Didn’t know where to put this but, I saw this huge red oak on a friend’s property last week. It’s 40”+ at the stump. It’s hollow but, the guy didn’t know it until an old root sprout died and fell last fall. I’m not sure if this tree originally grew from seed or a stump sprout. Maybe a stump sprout and that’s why it’s hollow? It would make an excellent bear den.

That’s blasphemy, right? Messing with the spirits there NH! I know. I hated doing it but one blocked the plot and a long shooting lane. The other had grown fast in the past 3 years. I planted 50 oaks this spring to make up for those two.

On my walk at break for work this morning I checked the swamp white oaks the city planted a few years ago. Are these acorns going to grow into full nuts or are they small from the drought we had until July 1? The similar oaks planted near me look the same. The grass around the trees wasn't golden dead, so I have hope the acorns are late to develop. Meanwhile the red (maybe pin) oak in my yard has begun dropping some nearly full-size acorns already.

This is a fairly young Bur Oak that is full of acorns. The tree is maybe 15 feet tall?

This oak was getting browsed heavily and I put a tube on it last year. It put on some good growth, but I noticed the bark was looking really irregular where the browse line had been. I took the tube off and it is really flexible as well. The new growth looks and feels fine. Do you think this is a "dead" tree growing? Any thoughts on what to do with it? Irregular bark New Growth this year
