Hoog is a cat grave. Bob was wing man last night when the 300 pound cougar rolled over and squished his wind out.

Glad to see you trying this sd. Throw some mung beans, clover, and pumpkins on it and see what happens.

Glad to see you trying this sd. Throw some mung beans, clover, and pumpkins on it and see what happens. I'm not sure what's gonna get planted just yet. It is very heavy on wood and I expect a bunch of settling come late spring, so I'll have to back fill the gaps, and see how much rye I can get to take. I would like a mature rye crop on it to hold it together, before I plant anything. If the rye doesn't take for some reason, I'll seed barley right away in spring. Next year may end up just being a fall planting of garlic. From there, I would like to have something to pick and eat each time I come up, and I don't know what that is yet. It's gonna have to be something that is long lived or not so sensative to picking times like green beans, lettuce or asparagus.

I've heard that system is good for apple trees. Are you going to fence that in? I would assume the deer would eat everything as soon as you are gone otherwise.

Chives last forever. granted not a daily use thing, but they sure are good fresh from the garden. Takes up very little space.

Green onions can also be planted early and used over a long period. I haven't had any issues with deer eating them when planting them outside my garden fence.
