Got the garden seed order done this morning. I was talking to a guy at the office yesterday, and he reminded me there is still a zombie apocalypse going on, so I better order my garden seed early. So I punched it out. The squash and pac choi are only going in the plots. I don't know how much of this will fit in the hoog, but we're gonna find out.

Asparagus seed rather than crowns? Do you start any of your garden plants early inside?

Asparagus seed rather than crowns? Do you start any of your garden plants early inside? It's a $3 try. I'm not ready for the effort and cost of crowns. I've started tomatoes inside before. They got to 30" and were blooming before I could put them out. The only stuff I may start inside is that jumbo squash, and only some of them.

She gave me some and they did great, but those tiny little sprouts are difficult to weed around and it takes years before they are producing edibles. They'll make a great bed someday, but right now I'm not ready for the effort and cost of seeds. Thinking of starting switch indoors this spring but haven't ordered seed yet. May be too late to get that started.

Got the hoog ready for spring. Still have fall planted garlic in there. Not sure if that’ll make it. It was really dry until the pond filler hit ten days ago. I do know it rooted down, so we’ll see. I also planted crimson, berseem, barley, and onion. Not sure if I put anything else in this spring. Might have sprayed rape on there too. Then I covered it in alfalfa pellets. The grass hay I had on there kept blowing off. I think the deer came and ate the hay pellets until they got rained on.

Starting to see signs of life on the hoog. Barley is coming up. I may have buried my rye and white clover too deep with the mulch. Even if, I’d think some oughta punch thru somewhere. That is a pistachio hull.

Next time up, I’ll plant the rest of the warm season stuff I ordered.

The hoog is coming along. I don’t think the garlic made it. I do have potatoes coming though. I’m not sure if I planted that broadleaf there. The barley is coming along too. The alfalfa is molding and getting warm. Lesson learned there, too thick could be a thing. I peeled open some pockets and planted my squash, dill, tomato, asparagus, and peppers.

There was definitely a late frost towards the end of May. My potatoes look like they melted. The oaks looked tough after it too.

I’m probably going to hold off on building the big hoog until next year. I’ve got enough on my plate that I don’t wanna bite that off too. I wanna make a bigger plan. I think I can fix a ton of stuff if I think this through.

Late frost zapped my taters this year. They bounced back and seem to be growing well now.

SD, Did you put any garlic in there last fall?? I did. They died from either too much mulch, or it was too dry. I found them rooted down in the spring, but the dirt was just dry like a shop floor.

It was barley. I need to ease up on the pellet alfalfa next time. Taters are hanging in there. The squash hasn’t changed much in three weeks. Probly need to break down and water this. I figured about 20 gallons would be an inch. It’s bone dry beneath the alfalfa. How this is hanging on is beyond me. I should probably dig a few inches until I find the moisture. Maybe the roots have reached the soaked firewood?
