I may be wrong about the squash. It’s filling fast and there’s 70s in the forecast for two more weeks. This grew 4.5” in 5 days. The cover crop barley is rotting down quickly. The mound has really settled this season. I had heaped it up bigly in the spring. I bet it has settled 10” since then.

You should be able to have a large crop of potatoes in there next year.

You should be able to have a large crop of potatoes in there next year. We wanna do garlic, onions, tomatoes, and herbs in this next year. I don't know if we'll do taters again next year, at least not in this one. If we get the scaled up hoog built this winter and filled early enough in spring, we may try some, but it also may end up just being cover crops for the year.

Get your garlic in the ground now. It needs to over winter.

Should I put it in now, or wait for that? I’d plant now or get it and put it in your refrigerator crisper because it hay not be around when you want it. Plant it by the last week of September. 2-3” deep 6” apart in soil and mulch with 6” of straw. That’ll provide winter protection from cold and block weeds for next summer growing.

What you don’t want is for it to push a lot of top growth this fall due to a long warm spell and then get hit by a late frost.
I had a nice head set aside to plant but, my wife used it this weekend so I’ve got to get more.

The jumbo squash is going like hell. It’s gone up 2.5” in length and doubled in girth in six days. I threw a shitload of old annual clover seed in here for cover. It’s growing around an egg shell. The deer are squaring off my cover crop aeroponic barley. Aeroponic

SD,
A guy that grows great garlic confirmed he plants his 2” deep November 1. He mulched with 6” of old hay. Walks away until next August. Little or no work involved. He gets 400 head a year.

I like that plan. Where do you get the garlic seeds or bulbs you plant?
When are they mature and ready to pick?

Actual seed garlic was hard to get last I looked, and it’s worth more than silver by weight. At least and the snooty store it’s manageable.

As far as harvest, it’s got something to do with the number of leaves that dry and drop. I follow the maritime Gardner on YouTube for garlic knowledge.

Didn’t pick up any length this week. Maybe gained some more girth. I almost feel like i need to eat this. But I wanna scoop the seeds and feed it to the yard deer.
