More buckthorn bit the dust today. One thing I'm noticing is that I am covering much more ground with a tank full than I used to. When the stuff was super thick in an area, I'd be going through multiple tanks of spray in an afternoon. Now, I'm out there for the same amount of time, but I'm spending much less time in specific areas. Progress is slow but sure. One thing that does suck is finding metric shittons of seedlings under dead female trees. I'm spraying them with the same mix, but I have no idea if it will be effective or not. I end up getting more spray on leaves than on the stems/bark.

Boring updates but who cares
Today, I finished up hitting what I know of/can find on the western half/two thirds of my property. I've got all of the "out lying" stuff done (to the best of my knowledge). What I've got left is "ground zero" and the immediate area around that spot. I've spent many, many hours in that area over the years and have it largely under control. I'll need to spend a few hours in there next week and I think I'll be about done with the buckthorn war for this year.
I may start hitting some spots with thick ironwood re-gen next. Ironwood is every bit as invasive as buckthorn here.

Sure wish I was near the land so I could attack as time permits.
our goal is to start killing buckthorn around deer stands. Go out 50 to 75 yds from each.... after that, then start some sweep spraying.... but gotta get part 1 done first.

what I have going for me on my end, is that it will be 4 of us doing it. So that is massive.

I've been encountering some major grape vines as I'm staggering around in the bush spraying buckthorn. The forester who renewed my 2c plan this year encouraged me to at least consider controlling some of the wild grape. I know he's right, as I've seen wild grape kill 25+ year old pines at my old place. I'm going to find out if basal spraying grape vines is an effective method for killing them. Some of the vines are bigger around than my wrist at the base.

I had a guy this week at my house for some treeremoval by the garage.
He saw a grape vine and i should get rid of it. He said at least cut it at the base, let it dry out, then rip the vines out when dry....
I kinda liked it draped through the oaks..... He said kill it...
I had no idea it was a bad thing.

I had a bunch of vines in my buckthorn jungle at home stressing out the good trees I had left. I just cut them and sprayed them with triclopyr too.

I'll be spending a number of hours (not a few) in there next week. I was out of diesel, so I came back and ran to town to fill up. Now I'm going to order another jug of Crossbow

Dads been at the farm the last few days pulling buckthorn with the utv.
Spraying would cover more tonnage quicker, but what the hell. Its something

I tell you...when I drive around the area and look at all the buckthorn I really wonder if I'm just wasting my time. The guy who used to let your buddy hunt not far west of me has a massive buckthorn infestation. I wish he and his kid (and grandkids I think) would get after the stuff.
