I had what appeared to be twin 2.5 year old 8 pointers walk under me last night. They had been feeding in a small plot with 4 does and a fawn. There was zero chasing or harassment by either buck. After the bucks fed, they left a few seconds apart and followed each other. It sure didn't seem very "rutty" last night. I have not seen much yet either Stu-- it seems to happen around November 3 or later in most years, sometimes you see a flurry on Halloween. Most years we miss it completely due to the added pressure of the gun season. Middle to end of next week is looking good.

Lone doe from the stand tonight. My wife watched 3 does and a nubbin buck eating hostas and sunflower seeds at the house. Nothing seen on stand today, but about a dozen on the field and two fawns eating acorns by my truck and fish house camper. Ended up with a well embedded deer tick.

Have you guys read about a test you can send the tick in to see if it is a limes carrier?

Old farts may have some ideas that we don't agree with, but when they own the place it's their call.

This is the single most important reason that I hold on to a smaller, nearly unproductive, hunting parcel. No matter what happens on my tiny buckless kingdom, I'm still benevolent, but nonetheless dictator, of that kingdom.

Wait until KBB starts telling you how you're doing it all wrong, or your window wasn't shimmed perfectly square, or your storage container is tilting, or, you should have used a square when you trimmed the ship lap....
Then, you realize, you're not really in charge of anything, even if you think you are. What happens next, is you stop inviting anybody to join you while you're there, and you can enjoy your kingdom in solitude, for what it's worth.

Someday I will likely transition to what I believe is a democracy and actually get overthrown as dictator. It's inevitable, but that is the price for rubbin and cuddlin. In these formative years, there is a reason I've snuffed out all democratic uprisings.
