I received an email notice my rootstock will ship next week from Cummins. My my wife will be happy the bags of scions will be out of the fridge soon I am hoping my 40 from Burrn Ridge won't send any notifications until at least Mid March, yeesh! However I agree, my wife will also be happy as I am taking up a 1/8 of her fridge space right now

You guys need beer fridges If you graft in mid/late March, what do you do with the benchgrafts until you plant them out? I usually aim to graft in mid-April, then store in a tub of dirt inside my shed until mid-May...then plant out in their permanent homes.

I've got an unheated barn room that usually stays in the 45-50 range that I can store the grafts in. I use plastic tubs and bury the roots in miracle gro potting soil. This has worked fine for me for 3 years. I keep them dark so they don't want to push growth

Good luck grafting Carl, hope you get 100% success Thanks Stu. I should do ok. I'll shoot for 80%. If the roots on the rootstock don't look good I'll hold those over this year and graft next spring. I should also have some leftover scions for grafting on existing trees in April.

I put mine in my dark basement that stays rd 60-65. I bring them outside end of April adjust for a few days to the sun then into the nursery they go.

Did 47 cleft grafts tonight. Passed on grafting 3 of the rootstock due to poor roots. They had great diameter girth but, few roots so I'll plant them and let them grow this year. We will finish the rest tomorrow night. The opinel 6 knife works great.

Do you sharpen your Opinel on both sides or just one? Nope, i just use it as is. They are sharp out of the box for $12. The last one lasted me two seasons.
