smsmith , I said the method was easy, I didn't say the day to day was easy. Weight loss is a process, it ebbs & flows over time. Results do happen though if you stick to your plan.
I look at it like this, time is going to go by anyways, if you continue to try and/or live on purpose, at future date you will actually attain those goals, regardless what it is.
Makes sense why your in that cold in MN now though Stu, your 1 of them big sobs.
For those that has mentioned 150-170, I have thought about those numbers and what they would look like on me. I just don't know if it's a realistic goal, If I got crazy strict I could deff get there I have no doubts but idk if the 'want' to is there or not.
I agree with you completely Dan. Your thinking is spot on...I guess I'm just telling you to stay focused. I was down to 205 at one point in my life. That must have been when I was in my mid 30s or so. I've been back to 270-280 a few times since then...and back down to the 230s a few times. It used to be easy to lose weight. It isn't any more. I used to be able to lose weight simply through diet. I can't do that now. Height/weight charts say I should be 185-205. I wouldn't look healthy at 185. 205 would be okay, but I don't think that's feasible. 215 is what I've decided I "should" weigh.

I will participate in the challenge. I am 5-11 195 as of last week, right now, about 192 after lots of walking this weekend.. My strategy is simple, walk as much as you can, habitat work. However, I need to adjust my eating to make a difference. I always feel better at 180-185 or so. Beer, chips and chocolate are my downfall. We also just upgraded the treadmill, and I like to hit that for 30 minutes and watch the financial channels to see how much my stocks are down (or up)

Stu, I know exactly how you feel like 7 years ago I was 240 and got down to 179 then last May 1st I was 247.5#. Life can sure smack you in the face some days with a bitter reality. I know having lost people you deeply care about you know what I'm saying.
I like you further west northerners, I feel like we're cut from the same cloth even if I'm dumber on guy levels compared to you handy sons a bitches! Maybe I will shoot for 170 just to see if that's 'me' or if it isn't, like I said I still got fat so, well live it on purpose........again.
It's funny how simple tasks seem daunting, when in reality, they don't impact the truth of, no ones getting out of here alive.

I started to weigh myself every day as soon as I get up. Today I was 212.4, yesterday it was 213.6. I don't know if doing this every day is a good thing or not, I have seen swings where I'll be more than the day before and then the next it's back down. I've been doing this since the 26th of February. Over all I'm on a downhill slide. Well time for breakfast. 1 cup chocolate milk, 2 scrambled eggs, 1 cup hash browns (4 oz) & 2 slices white bread toast & buttered. 640 calories of my 1622 daily allotment. Then its out the door for a 3 mile walk. To burn off about 300 calories.

A number of years ago I purchased a Omron Body fat tester. I wanted something that would tell me how much fat I have on me and something to give me a target to shoot for. I purchased the unit on Amazon and I don't think it was to expensive. So I'm in. I always gain weight in the winter. I'm 6'8 282 with a 21% body fat. If you look at the sheet below for my age I should be 11-21% body fat. I want to be right in the middle so i am targeting a 15% body fat percentage. That means i need to lose 17 pounds to get down to 265. I have been able to hit that weight (263 last summer) most summers and I think using the fat analyzer is a good way to keep me on target.

Ha, it's all relative. My older brother is 6'8" 420, now he is huge.
I am larger than your average fella but I'm still pretty light on my feet.
I'm a huge believer in anaerobic training. Years ago I read that 95% of a persons life long activities are anaerobic. I played allot of sports in school (football/ Discuss Thrower) and got into weight training. I'm not built like your typical weight lifter but I do love it and have stuck with it for 30+ years. Right now I'm just maintaining and gave up trying to increase my strength years ago. For my age I do pretty well.

Well another member told me about this app. So I've been using it to track callories, plan meals and workouts. It's pretty slick. So far I've been able to eat enough and still stay under the recommended callories per day. I played with it today and found you can scan food and drink items to add to your plan. Well today I'm 618 callories under but still haven't taken my evening walk which would add more to the 618 under. So according to the app I can have 10 oz of Jack for 400 callories. Looks like I could get shit faced tonight. .
