Reading through other threads weight loss keeps coming up. So I figured to start one about weight loss. A few years ago I lost a shit load in the biggest looser at work. Enough I won a good size cash prize. So what did this dumb ass go and do, buy a smoker. Not saying it's the reason I have put back most of what I lost but I did put some back. Then not long ago I bought a griddle. But I love to cook on smokers, grills and griddles. Now it's a matter of cooking smartk and just not eating as much. At my heaviest i was 222 July of 2017, I got down to 184.6 in Dec of 2017. I stopped watching weight after that time until recently. Feb 26 2020 I weighed in at 216.2. I decided to set my goal again for 185 and have been watching what I'm eating and walking more. I use to put on a lot of miles at work at least 5 a night but it was through a 9 hour shift. That's not really going to cut it as far as exercise. Since I retired on March 4th I have walked at least 3 miles a day in one crack. This AM I was 213.6. When I did the biggest loser I was taking a shot of apple cider vinegar a day. That stuff is nasty and I'm going to try losing the weight by walking and better eating or in other words watching my calories. Join in if you want, or sit there and get fat. I am curious, Brad we kind of had a race to 185. Did you keep it off? If so your a better man than I.

Gimmicks are NOT they way to go, Palio, Keto, Atkins, etc.. I get some health problems have a doctor suggest this or that with diet to produce results. However, males, weightloss is NOT difficult. T When I say NOT difficult, I mean the method the madness, I do not mean the day 2 day. Would I rather have a piece of pie along with everyone else at a family function instead of watching all the other people eat it as my stomach growls. Well no Shit! I don't do that anymore, if I want it, I'm gong to have it, but when you first start, you have to have a semblance of will power, because lets face it, that's how we all get big(ger).
Calories in produce weight gain, same weight, or weight loss. Plain, simple, easy. Math & science produce the result desired when it comes to figuring out what you want.
I knew I was gong to Disney this past December/Jan with my family, I knew I wanted to be thinner, walk in the heat, crowded parks, still enjoy my kids without the burden of extra weight or maybe even being 'to big' for a ride. Embarrassing.....
I would say my bone structure is normal, I'm 5'10, I'm not naturally strong like some of my country boy friends. Some of you folks should thank the man upstairs if your like that, those males tend to care their extra weight in their gut but it's a hard gut and if they exercise it's all gone in months easily. I carried most of my weight as a dunlop, like not a fupa (HAHAHA) but damn it hung over my belt something fierce.
My comparison would be like a woman's gut, what I mean by that, is woman have a hard time losing the fat because of their body makeup, my stomach area still feels like that, it aint tight even after 60#+ loss. I'm clothes skinny but not beach skinny, but kiss my ass muscle & fitness magazine this man aint for you. I feel great even if I'm not 5% body fat, lol.
I haven't ran since January 3rd, last day I was in Florida. Reason being? I fell once here on the ice just before that on the road, SCREW THAT! It hurt! It's a long way down to the ground these days, I'm not 18 or bouncing backup. My ribs show when I stretch, that shit diidn't happen in May. If I lean against something my hips get sore cuz there aint nothing around them. Skinner people problems I knew nothing about before now....
So April 30th I knew I was gonna start losing weight on May 1. I found an app that people were betting on themselves and making money while losing weight. I thought, hell, I'm going to be losing weight anyways, why not make some $ while I do it? LOL... Between May 1 and Oct 30th I spent around $250 and won about $370, I never lost a bet, but I did small 1 month games the whole time while also doing 1 6 mos transformer bet. The app I decided on was Dietbet/Waybetter (same thing).
That was just extra motivation to keep myself focused. I knew calories and exercise was key to be turning myself in the other direction weight/size/health wise. The first month last May I only focused on my calorie intake. I downloaded a free app called Lose it, you can set your current size, goals, and a timeline of how quickly (realistically) you want to lose the weight and it gives you a calorie intake daily plan. You then log your food day to day/meal to meal. It takes all of 20 seconds to log a meal, if you can't do that, well staying where you are is an option to. Or maybe you're just that good to do it all yourself with no help, I wasn't , I needed some sort of an idea to climb the mountain in front of me.
After a great month in May (I think I lost 12#) I decided it would be a good idea to get movement along with some food success. I decided walking/jogging would be my thing, I download Runkeeper (another free app) and it worked with Lose it to adjust my calorie intake according to cals going out. This is not an infomercial, it's just me telling you guys you can lose weight for free, no gyms, just you, and there are tools to help you along the way that don't cost anything.
One thing I would say is don't get caught up on BMI charts! That stuff will drive a person batty, you have physical noticeable results and that chart says your obese still, mind numbing! When I started it was 35.5 now it's 26.5, 26.5 is overweight. WTF do you want me to be Ethiopian or something. My waste was 40-42 down to 32, I mean my belly is still there a bit so could I realistically beat myself into the ground and get down to 170# or something sure but geez, not sure how fun/rewarding that would be.
Let me be real with you guys, I have naturally big calves, i'm torso and shorter legs, I'm not built like a runner, I don't have lung capacity like a runner. Once I could get my breathing right I could consistently do 2-5 miles depending on how much time I had that day, or if there was going to be some seriously good food at a cookout later that day. HAHA!
Just be real with yourselves, take it day by day, give yourself a solid month of work then work in a cheat meal a week, or a cheat day every 2 weeks or week, whatever you gotta do to keep focused on your goals.

I will play, 44 years old 5’8 235lbs. When I started this job 5 years ago I was 202lbs. I got as heavy as 245 a year and a half ago. I stopped 95% of my drinking a year ago and have not really lost anything. Use to drink 5-7 days a week. Looking to get to 195.

Ha! I'll dig around and find a pic sometime. Most people get pissy when I talk about losing a few pounds though. 5'10", 150ish (I haven't been on a scale for a year or so). And your how old? Just wait a few years. In my 40's I was in the 160's. 46. It's catching up. My dad tells me all the time to enjoy it while I can. Good advice that I take to heart.

I got news for you Dan, male weight loss gets harder and harder with age. I will admit that it is easier for men at most any age than it is for women, so that is true. I used to be able to drop 20-30 lbs. pretty easily. Not so anymore. I will also say that weight loss used to be easy, but putting it back on is even easier. Without a complete and total change of habits (not just eating), the weight comes back. I have kept off the better part of 60 lbs. for a few years now, but it hasn't been easy. edit...I'll participate in the weight loss deal as well. I'm 6'4", used to be about 280. I've been as low as 217 last summer, now right around 228. I want to get to 215 by the end of the summer.

I'm 5'10" and 216 lbs as of Saturday. I'd like to get to about 170 lbs. I'm 40 years old and didn't really put on the weight until after about 30. Most my life I was a bit thin and got used to being able to eat whatever I want. Now that I'm not as active the bad eating habits really caught up with me. We switched health insurance companies at work and the new plan has a free Fitbit and pays up to $3 a day if I get enough steps and often enough. I've been wearing it a little over a week. Between trying to get the $3 each day and competing with coworkers I'm getting a lot more exercise then before. Hopefully this time a stick with it.

smsmith, I said the method was easy, I didn't say the day to day was easy. Weight loss is a process, it ebbs & flows over time. Results do happen though if you stick to your plan.
I look at it like this, time is going to go by anyways, if you continue to try and/or live on purpose, at future date you will actually attain those goals, regardless what it is.
Makes sense why your in that cold in MN now though Stu, your 1 of them big sobs.
For those that has mentioned 150-170, I have thought about those numbers and what they would look like on me. I just don't know if it's a realistic goal, If I got crazy strict I could deff get there I have no doubts but idk if the 'want' to is there or not.
