Did it. Don’t know how many are in there. I’m guessing 200-300? Went down to the commons and loaded up. Took a long damn time to go through all that, but I damn near used every on I cut. I gave it a 5 gallon drink of well water before I covered it up.

This one was a mix of the transplants and the cuttings. I wanted to see how they do side by side. It also got a good dose of organic fertilizer. Won't go into further detail on the source of that.

Did you walk away from that endeavor with both socks and both shirt sleeves intact? You know what I didn't stop to fathom in doing this, is any splitting from the sprouts. With them two inches apart like how I've got them, they're gonna really have to bush away from the center to get some breathing room. I may have gone a little too dense. Maybe they'll prune themselves back, or I can go and take the extras out. What a problem that would be huh? Let's pray for survival first.

Too dense would in fact be a great problem to have if they all survive. You might have just created a super shrub that twists together into a ROD tree. Taking out some cuttings or bending over branches for side propagation will be an easy fix if it comes to that. Is it close enough to the cabin that you will be able to keep an eye on it?

It's right on the NW corner of my lawn. I wasn't gonna drag all that stuff to the back of the woods for an experiment. If it works, then I'll get to hiking it back there.

I've got a more stems coming it seems, but any I find that are unprotected, are nipped off about 16" up from the ground.

Obviously, the ROD in high traffic areas gets browsed pretty heavily. The stuff along the road and in more exposed areas flowers and sets seed most years.

^allot of my ROD is tall with thick stems. I have thought about cutting a bunch of it off in the late winter/ early spring and then hitting it hard with fertilizer when they emerge from dormancy so there would be fresh browse coming from old plants. I just have never gotten around to it.
When would you guys cut them off, probably when they are dormant?
