Years ago I ordered (or attempted to order) a bunch of chestnuts from Badgersett Nursery. They never sent me the stock and wouldn't refund my money until I went the BBB route. It took quite awhile, but I eventually got my money back. I just saw this post on another forum Just a heads up - looks like they are in trouble and have had difficulty filling orders and answering correspondence. They currently have a gofundme set up to cover expenses at their farm. www.gofundme.com/save-the-planet-no-really
I hope they can survive - I've had great luck with their hazelnuts (planted over 15 years ago).

There was a guy from my town that spent 4 days there last summer researching their chestnuts and hybrid hazelnut. I don't know what happened to their chestnut research but, I think he came back with the attitude to pursue the hazelnuts instead of chestnuts. This place is run by Phil Rutter. Right?

Yes, I believe Phil Rutter owns/runs the place. People either love Badgersett or hate it, unfortunately I fall in the latter category.

On the chestnut front I did speak with a member of the NH ACF board and I get the feeling that he wants the gmo based variety allowed now by the FDA. He said the finished product is ready just waiting approval but, there's resistance by non gmo believers. The 15/16 are now being crossed back and there's another 3-5 years to see results on them. If they went the gmo route they'd be that much further ahead.

I've about given up on chestnuts. Every once in awhile I think about trying some of Red Fern Farm's hardy chinese varieties, but they usually have a waiting list. Giving a place my money for a year or more, then getting some trees that may or may not live here doesn't sound all that tempting.

I've got 30 or so that I'm overwintering that I'll grow at home another year and plant this fall. Beyond that I'm done growing chestnuts from seed. I'm going to buy one of these nut gatherers though for picking up the white oak acorns locally and seeding them in spots on my land. I figure I can pick up the nuts 10x faster with this tool. They keep the grass cut very low so it should work well. www.amleo.com/weasel-nut-gatherer/p/VP-WNG/

If we have a good year here I can get you several hundred for sure. I'd plant several in your tornado zone. Yiu may not appreciate them down the road but, some lucky hunter and the deer will.

My place was apparently high graded at some point, so I have fewer reds than neighboring properties. Still, I have some big specimens that crank out good numbers of acorns every other year or so. I also have a fair number of younger reds that I've been clearing around so they get more sun. I may mess around with white or swamp white oaks in the future.

I can get you plain whites but, they won't store in the fridge long without putting out a radical. They'll need to be planted in early October. I tried storing some last fall until I was able to go due to my surgery and they popped radicals so I ended up tossing them here and there in the woods. Hopefully the squirrels planted sone that would survive.

If I try some whites and/or SWOs I'll plant them bareroot.

They seem to be planting lots of swamp whites in the commercial landscape settings around here the past few years. I think a few should be producing nuts in a year or two.
