ive kinda had that revelation this year, why am I trying to feed the deer during the summer when they have more than enough on the neighbors crop fields. Need to focus more on the fall plots and timber management, and what ever little food I can provide for winter for birds. Birds?? You don’t mean turkeys?

Do deer feed on rootsuckers or small limbs of your HP if you drop them during the winter?

My plotting intentions are to provide deer clover, fruit, and acorns as consistently as possible. Throw in a few brassicas every now and then and that'll be "it".
I still think the best option for most foodplotters is clover/clover mix. My clover plots will provide food from spring green up until there's too much snow for deer to dig through to get at.

Yes and those long tailed non native Chinese chickens

You remember when we used to argue about clover? I thought it was the most useless plant on the landscape. Then came the revelation.

Certainly, it gets a lot more use in spring and late summer/fall than the rest of the year. If soil is lacking something that makes the clover taste better, I have been lucky to have whatever that may be (calcium?) in my soils. Granted, I couldn't get shit for clover to grow in the sands of central WI. What did grow did get eaten though.

With rain in the forecast for tomorrow, I figured I'd go ahead and get my fixation/brassica plot sprayed and seeded. Had a bunch of grass, aspen re-gen, clover, and various weeds growing there. I spread the seed (threw in a bit of red clover and white clover too), then nuked it hard with gly. I also went around the edges of the plot spraying buckthorn seedlings that are coming up where I've killed a shitload of older stuff.
I really don't want any more rain as our veggie garden got drowned with the last round of rain, but if it's coming I may as well try to get the plot to germinate. Except for possibly spreading some radish and/or oats into some clover plots later in the summer/early fall, I'm done with plots for the year.

I tried some last week after the rains. I was just wondering if I should do anymore plot work or not.

I broadcast mine just fine. I do think I about double the recommended rate though.

Broadcasting and broadcasting into existing clover plots are two different things in my mind. I get good stands of radish by doing what I did today. Broadcasting seed and burning it down with gly. Getting a decent stand of radish (or oats) in existing clover will be almost totally dependent on heavy rains and on deer browsing the clover heavily.

Just did a bit of searching and figured out that the "Deer Greens" I bought from Outside Pride this year are the same thing as Pennington Rack Master Deer Greens. Outside Pride must buy in bulk and re-label.
Just an FYI I guess

Kinda related to Stu’s comment above. I get piles of rebranded Seed in. This is the latest and greatest in PT Turnips. Hercules Brand turnips from Freudenberger. Same turnips as before but since we can now say that these new turnips are the latest and greatest in from Europe it should add 20-30% more in turnip sales. Can’t just say turnips anymore. Crazy how this shit works now.
