How long does that etching process take Mike? That sure add's a nice touch to your product. I do like those small skinners you show above........maybe a bit deeper sheath for better retention?? (when climbing in and out of trees, etc)

(when climbing in and out of trees, etc) The actual etch takes 5-6 minutes per side. The prep and making the stencil takes about an hour. Every sheath is fit to the knife, no need to go deeper as they are tight. The little skinners as you all them, I call mini hunters. They are by far my top sellers. The last show I went too they were the first to sell out. What I like about them is the sheath has a belt loop, the entire knife is about 6" long. Being that size when in the sheath if your wearing shorts, sweats or you don't want it on your belt they fit very nicely in your pocket.

The stencil material is a vinyl that sucks down pretty good to whatever it is applied to.

It maybe ugly now but hidden somewhere in there is a beautiful knife handle. Back in August I said there was a knife handle in there somewhere. Well I'm almost caught up on orders I need to get done before my surgery. So while waiting for epoxy to set I dug this root burl out. I'm not sure what it is but am thinking its a maple root burl, whatever it is that SOB sure is HARD. Not wanting to use the chain saw my 10" compound saw wasn't big enough to go all the way through so I had to hand finish it. I've a few pieces cut off and here they are. There was no sanding done after the cut, I only sprayed a little mineral spirits to bring the grain out. It may take another month or 2 before I get back to it but will do another update once I'm back at it. The wife has already claimed this for her next handle.

I'm back at the root burl/ball. I cut some more from the main piece, cut and surface sanded 2 scales to 120 grit. I sprayed them with mineral spirits to get the grain to show. Once sanded to 800 and polished they will really pop. Here the blade they are going on and what was cut today. I don't know what kind of wood this is but its the hardest stuff I've ever worked with.

Well here it is. The mystery root ball/burl knife. It needs to be sharpened yet but I wanted to do this video first so I wouldn't cut myself up doing the video. This one is a keeper for sure. I did the video to vs pictures so you could see the handle at all angles.

Found this while cruising the web. I think it would make a sharp looking handle.

With my restrictions I was able to sneak this little project in. I saved and dyed some egg shells and added a few that were not dyed. I'm going to cast them into a clear epoxy for a knife handle. I think the red white and blue will look nice. Not sure on the blade yet but it will come to me.

I cast the shells today. Give a a couple of weeks to fully cure then it goes on a knife.

It was slow going after the surgery but these 3 were just picked up. Father, son & grandson. All 1095 stone washed each to a little different finish & each etched with the owners initials and a deer head. Drop in sheaths with a belt loop. Handles are left to right Locust, Maple Burl & Crab Apple.
