Commissioner often plan hunts so we can hang the deer. Chain hoist in back yard for 5 days to age them. Then chain hoist in garage. Better plan than the Saturday closest to November blah blah.

I don’t have a meat pole. I always clean my deer in the field. I do have a large limb I hang our deer on. Bucks I hang by the horns, does by the legs. Always works well.

I’m gonna save my deer guts in a garbage can until we are done shooting them.
Then I’m going to bang that gut cube out in one piece and put it out 200 yards from my enclosed blind and see if I can shoot a coyote or two.

Strange. My family has always hung by the neck, unless they plan on mounting it. I know my deer processing buddy says it’s easier to skin if by legs!

I really like my Slingblade and hide ripper pliers. Makes skinning super fast.

We always gut in the field. Years back, my oldest daughter shot a yearling buck on opening morning. Second morning, I was sitting with my youngest daughter and she shot a 12 point at 198 pounds dressed weight. He was down wind of the gut pile and working towards it with his nose in the air when she shot him.
Last fall, my wife shot a buck on opening morning. Numerous deer stood around smelling the gut pile that afternoon.
By the second day, they totally ignored it.

I put a camera on a gut pile and got numerous deer with their nose on the ground smelling it. Other than human related smells I don’t think anything else bothers them.

I put duck carcasses in a pile then took a deer hide and laid over that and spiked it to the ground.
Deer visited that spot constantly. Even got pics of a deer with feathers hanging out of her mouth. She was eating duck parts

2008. My son is the one with the stick. Wow, where did those 12 years go. Love his reaction to whatever he dug out of the bait pile. HAAAA
They are all 23 now. Kid on the left is a sports physical therapist, middle kid is a software developer, and my son is a deputy.
Who the fuck would have ever predicted that. Best kids ever.
