If your around this weekend (or during the week) let me know and I could possibly help you. I have a long punch, some drill bits, maybe some old end mill, and a BFH to extract that dude. I think it will work to drill the bolt from the other side and drive out your chineeeze EZ out. Then buy a USA SQUARE shank EZ out and tap that dude in the hole. Should come out ??
I just broke a coulple of scope screw the other day....and was lucky to retritve them....as enough was sticking out to grab them with a small vice grips. I could not find my EZ out set.....so I got lucky. Mine were #6 size screws tho....tiny stuff compared to your issue. I think these are the first scope screws I have ever broke. Chit happens.

Thanks Foggy, I just got home and won't be up for a week or more. No worries I'll get it figured out. Your right, I need to buy an American made easy out. I'll be buying a few items before my next trip up, any recommendations on quality brands is appreciated. I need some quality drill bits to start, Dremel bits and another easy out. I have punches and a tap and die set. One way or another I'll get it out its just a matter of how much collateral damage i do. I can always do what was recommended earlier and cut off the aluminum plate and have another welded on.

Throwing a $5 pair of vice grips on it and walking away doesn't sound like too bad of an idea right about now does it?

Throwing a $5 pair of vice grips on it and walking away doesn't sound like too bad of an idea right about now does it? Maybe later, I still have allot of fight in me. I just need to bring the right weapons/tools with me. It's embed in aluminum it will come out one way or another. If I lived there it would be easier, I have to bring everything with me so it can be a challenge having what you need at your finger tips. I am surprised the Irwin stuff was that cheap, I did not wrench on it that hard. Next time I'll have some better tools.

I have thought that they provided good tools and have a fair reputation....as I know it. But you never know these days.....at many companies the "beanies" start to control what is done....and most every product becomes off-shored and compromised. So many trusted brands are now produced overseas.......and the price means more than quality in too many cases. I am not sure what a "good" brand might be? Anyone? Could just be the luck of the draw? Chit happens....even with trusted brands. If I can help in this week or next....let me know....otherwise I be gone to OZ... .

I had a bit of an oh shit moment at work today but it didn't turn out as bad as I thought. Because I broke a cobalt drill off in the part on Friday I tried a carbide drill today. On the fifth hole the carbide drill broke. The part was a large pieces of 304 stainless steel that cost over $2000 and had days of work into it before I got it. To make matters worse the job is really late already. It was too big to go into our EDM or hole popper machines to burn the carbide out. Fortunately the drill had shattered into enough small pieces I was able to pick them out of the hole. One of the few times I've been that lucky.

Carbide is usually brittle enough that few heavy blows with a punch and a BFH will shatter it and you can at least try to "dig" the broken pieces of bit out with a needle nose or a pick. Glad you got it to work.
At my previous job, once upon a time we made a few parts for the Space Shuttle program. The parts were TIG welded, and if the tungsten or the filler wire touched the weld puddle, the part went right in the scrap bin and you started over. Glad I personally was not responsible for any of that.

Coda....you been hanging here for a time. And I think much of what you post is spot on. Dont know much about you. Pretty mysterious. . What do you do for a living? Give us a little bio??? Not required.....but would be good to get you into the "fold".
I'm a machinist generally programing and running a five axis CNC mill at a small shop in the Twin Cities. I get to make some very cool and expensive parts. I've done parts for satellites and two Mars rovers. I just made some sabot pedals for a rail gun. I'm a bit new to the deer habitat stuff. A couple of years ago my father bought 35 acres next to the 5 acres he had a cabin on giving us 40 acres. Most of it was logged off then replanted by Potlatch before they sold it. It's located within the boundaries of Lyons state forest in Wadena county and bordered by state land on two sides so we have low deer numbers. I've wanted food plots for many years and now I finally can plant them. We've managed to carve out a couple small plots from the stump infested land. With the information pulled from this site and a few others I've been having getting fairly good plots considering the very sandy soil I'm working with. We haven't done much habitat stuff other then the food plots. I would like to get some land of my own but haven't found a piece I like at a reasonable price. I'm still single so I can spend my money on whatever I want but the prices of land just seem too high right now. I'm afraid to buy then have a recession hit and have the value plummet. It would be a little easier to justify if Minnesota had a higher quality deer herd. I'm 41 and would like to buy something while I've still got some time to reap the reward of any improvements I could make.
Not sure how I missed this post, sounds like you do some cool stuff! I programmed and ran a CNC lathe, as well as a couple of 3 axis in my previous job. I was always in awe of the 5 axis machines, they do some amazing movements! I have a friend who does programming for NASA, did a lot of stuff on the Mars rover. I bet your metalwork and his software have crossed paths.
