My buddy and my son put in our first attempt at corn this year with seed I got a couple years ago from biglakebass. It all got about 6ft tall, but most cobs look like this. Not enough nitrogen I’m guessing. Plenty of moisture fell on my sand country this season.

Are bears in the corn? I am assuming your son has checked it for you.

IME If that’s long days corn and does not dry it may get moldy. Deer still eat it but later when choicer options are gone.

Corn from that same source HAS worked well for me. There are lots of different factors from my place to satchmo’s. I probably have a longer growing season and different soils for sure.

I’m sure the deer will still use the corn since there is literally no other ag crops in my area. The bears started making crop circles in late August when my son checked it.

If the corn germinates it should grow as you expect unless you are short on growing days, nitrogen or soil amendments. Mo will probably have better insight into what is happening but it looks like it did not grow to maturity. Did it hit black silk stage?

This pic was August 17th. The day before my heart attack. We sprayed it with glyphosate too, so weeds were not much of a problem.

The only soil amendments were the 10 years of small grains being dished back in to my sand. They put 400lbs on each 1 acre plot of ESN 3 weeks later when they sprayed it. I’m thinking low nitrogen is the culprit.

Edit: could also be a combination of wrong maturity corn for your area as well as a corn that doesn’t work well on the sand. What day corn was it?

Got it from BLB from is batch of Pheasants Forever stuff. What day corn should I be looking for next time. Sand country northwest of Brainerd.
