That is a single disc opener. Will the one you be getting be double disc? Yes. This was just an example of his work.

Did you supply the drill.....or does he? He supplies the drill. Adding the 3 point hitch and paint job , the cost is comparable to the guy Brad got his from. Talked to Brad's guy and he wouldn't convert to a 3 point as he said he was to busy to mess with it.

So the guy cuts a $400 old drill in half and gets $2000 for one half? Holy fuck I need to look into this for a sideline business.

But as you said there is money to be made. You would need extra parts to replace any thing that needs replacing. There is a demand for the refurbished drills.

I see them at farm consignment auctions all the time. Where do you think that guy gets them.

Money to be made for sure and glad there are people that do this type of work. I have no problem paying the man for his efforts. The small food plot drills are worth more than the old big ones. Time and labor is worth something too. I would rather just go buy one that fuck around with that even if I was handy enough to do it.

All you need is the shop, tools and tallent to do it. I'm lacking the shop. Definitely money to be made. The bad part is going to the auctions, I hate auctions. Took 3 for me to get my packer.

Dads friend in Vining has a scrap yard. He gets quite a lot of old farm gear(also known as perfect sized foodplot gear). Its goes off for scrap every year. We had a trashed 290 JD planter at the farm last year that Dad brought and dumped off, and took a complete and working 290 for nothing. Dads putzing on getting it food plot worthy then selling it. He also picked up some extra JD metal seed cans that were laying out there. No real use for them, but we have some extras in case something happens to one of ours I guess.

I'm not putting a shop up here and really don't want to give up the garage. I'm waiting till we get relocated in the south west part of the state or north east Iowa.

I think a good welder/fabricator could make a great living by building a few small implements for food plotters.
Seems to me there is always a demand for 2 Row JD Unit Planters, Cut-down grain drills, small cultivators and disks, lime spreaders, cultipackers, refurbished drags, forks, tooth bars, loader mounted snow plows, and such. ( Portable deer stand running gear?) A little cut and weld, add 3 point pins, and nice paint. A few adds on CL or Marketplace and your golden. Could likely be as busy as you care to work.

There is a guy near me in MN that has one employee in a small shop. About all he makes is cultipackers. He imports the cast wheels and basically buys the frame material, and that heavy shaft for mounting the packer wheels and some bearings and such. He has a very nice design and spends his winters in Florida....doing sales from there on the phone. He keeps his employee busy the year around. When I talked with him, it seemed it was a bit much to bite off for him to buy the load of packer wheels. I would think that if someone were to approach him with sharing a load of those wheels, he would take that on in an instant. Those packers are one of the easiest items to build and to sell.....IMO. Every plotter wants one. Make two models of pull type and two models of 3 point.....and your golden. (same parts for all....just vary the width). Hardest part is handling the heavy materials. Those shafts weight allot. Prolly need some kind of overhead crane in a shop. Also wonder if he would "kit" his products to be welded and assembled by a distant location? Buy a dozen of the packers at a time....all pre-cut and weld and assemble and paint locally to customers color choice for extra money (or black as standard). I would think any bank would borrow the money for the inventory, if you had a decent plan and the ability to put them together. They seem to sell via the inter webs. Not sure his costs are low enough.....but perhaps. He is a sharp operator? Lots of things like this could be repeated from a distant source. It makes for a win / win. EDIT: Just went to his site....looks like he may just sell parts for the culitpackers now? Dunno....but looks like he is focussed on log spliters and that sort of thing? Maybe the culipacker nitch is saturated with other stuff? omni-mfg.com/Cultipacker-Parts-C118078.aspx?sid=10512

When we moved to our place on the lake.....I had to roll our garbage can about 1/2 mile to the road to get the trash company to pick it up. Pretty much like anyone else in "the country". I got drenched by some rain one day.....and decided I was going to make a device to put on my trailer hitch to haul the can to the road.
Before I started.....I decided to google to see if such a thing was made. Sure enough. A company called "cansporter" makes a trash can hauling device. Kinda expensive......but it's worth it to me. Always thought I should devise a product that would not violate this guys patent.
I called the guy in California to order.....and chatted him up a bit. He has them made for him in china and runs the sales and such out of his home. Makes a good living peddling trash can hauling devices. Great margins I am sure.
