I just got some clover seed mix that contains chicory. Can you frost seed chicory? Can you frost seed into thatch like this? If I frost seed it would also go over the standing sorghum which I may come back later and mow. So frost seed before this snow storm that is coming Sunday\Monday (ground is snow free now) or wait and till then plant?

I would not recommend frost seeding into that much thatch as I think you would be disappointed in the results. How big of an area are you planting?
Could you use a drag and move the material off?

Around an acre. I would probably till it in versus drag it off.

I don't think my Father-in-Law will go for that. You guys don't think if I put seed down today, and it gets snowed on that the melting snow, frost heaving, spring rains would work the seeds down? It may be a mute point because I'm stuck working right now and may not get to do anything "fun" today anyways.

I think the clover seed would work into the soil, I'd give it a shot

so what about the chicory...it is 20% of the mix, I don't want it to freeze out in a late spring frost. Can it handle that? I guess QDMA says I can, but can I trust them! LOL! www.qdma.com/frost-seed-food-plots/

I'd give it a try. If your not really sure do half of the plot.

I spread the clover chicory mix today. I have a cheap Scotts spreader, that seems to get seeds jammed in it. I "vented" the bottom today with a utility knife, it was much better after that. The seeds need a way to exit when they work there way below the spinner so they don't jam the gears. I also tilled did a small test till in the plot. If I have to do that I think it will turn out OK once it dries a little. Sorghum is still somewhat standing, spread the seed right over that I'll probably get some Red Clover to spread sometime as well.

Looks good, let us know how it turns out. I will be spreading lime and frost seeding clover at my place this weekend. Temps are warming up but I'm hoping it still freezes some more at night. If not my soil is pretty loose so I'm hoping the seeds work their way into the soil.

Here is a "bench" that I'm trying to frost seed some clover in. Put some seed down last year and this year. It was white clover so hoping to see some good results this year. If I can weed wack it once or twice this year to keep the brush done, and spay for grass next year it might turn into something. I threw out some winter rye this spring so don't want to spray this year.
