Maybe been answered before . What apple 🍎 or crab holds the latest consistently?? What is late? Big Dog,Buckman, and Courthouse crab seem to hold late with a drop thru the winter. Golden Hornet holds late. These may perform differently in Iowa.

This tree is about 3/4 miles from my house on a neighbor’s place. I suspect it is a rootstock or SWCD seedling. Midwest Deer Trees will be selling it under the name of No Bull.

That's a nice looking tree. Does that tree eventually drop the fruit in February or March then?
I have a tree or two from SLN and I think it was all-winter hangover or some other similar tree. Anyway, that tree holds fruit forever and never drops them so it is practically worthless for deer. Worse yet, that tree is at my Rusk County place, so when the bears wake up in spring they tear up the tree to get the frozen and mummified fruit still on the tree. That tree might work all right in an area with turkeys since they could fly up to eat them off the tree and hopefully knock others off in the process.

I don’t really know when it drops but had the same thoughts as you. A long pole can knock fruit down for those of us that live on the land.

Or just shake the tree. I did that with my All-Winter Hangover. It rained apples. This was in October or November.

No pictures since it was below zero and I didn’t feel like getting a good picture from outside, but tonight I saw my first Art- like sign of deer digging for apples right behind my house. My trees are young though, so it is much less impressive than art’s pics.
I planted a half dozen Franklin apples right behind my house for future cider operations and they had their first decent crops this year. The trees held fruit all year and just started dropping slowly the last two weeks. There is actually a ton of deer sign under every tree, which is really great to see.

I should be getting fruit soon on my Franklin on b 118.

I pruned off fruit previously since I wanted the trees to get a little bigger before allowing them to fruit, but this spring I let them all go. I'm hoping the trees bulk up a little in coming years since these trees are a little more spindly than other varieties that I have on seedling rootstock. I don't have a ton of experience with B118 trees, but the antonovka rootstock trees I have tend to have thicker trunks at the same height than these B118's. They are still nice trees, but I don't know how they would do in bear country.

Art, that looks like a hill in the background. All I ever see is flat landscape photos from you guys. If you look closely there looks likes sone good scion wood on some of the branch ends.

Good eye on the scion. I think Luke has permission to collect it.

There are no tracks around it and fruit at eating level...... is there cover near by for wildlife, or is that tree isolated in a mainly open area?

It is over 1/2 mile from any winter cover and 75 yards from a house with two large dogs. I don’t think I have ever seen a deer there and I have driven by there for 43 years. A busy crossroads by our standards as well.
