I think a scooter would be a blast for living in a cul-de-sac type of community. Run down to the community pool, hit the bar or coffee shop, visit the neighbor who just fired up the grill, etc.
I've looked seriously at a mini-bike for country living. It's not uncommon for me to run my trailcamera loop to exchange cards or grab a crappie pole and hit all the ponds on a run. I fear the mini-bike would gradually take over for running those things though so I've steered clear.

Just scoot around "the hood" - which is a gated community - about 2 miles wide and 8 miles long....fun to cruise about. My knees and joints are not getting any better (got some arthritis and bone spurs) and riding a bike seems better for me than walking. The e-bike takes some of the grunt work out of the equation and makes it fun. This aging thing is real....gotta keep moving.

You do need an ebike for riding on the flats if having problems just gear down more and go slower. if you want to putter I would go with a trike especially as one grow older with balance issues. I have a friend who is 80 and logged over 13k last year(250k lifetime) went to a trike. We biked 5k last year on a tandem recumbent and are putting on assist($1600) for hill climbing as my wife has a fused toe. My advise buy a trike. Go to a good bike shop for a proper fit.

It's amazing how much a toe can hurt a person and how much it changes things. My wife has bunions. A couple of surgeries and still lots of pain. She absolutely loves sports. Played volleyball and basketball through college. Can't play real games anymore due to the 2 weeks of pain she'll inflect on herself. She can walk for exercise or shoot around, that's about it.

My dad is 74. He rides his age in miles on his bike every year around his birthday. He will ride 20-30 miles on a normal ride. Battled cancer the last 9 years but now in remission.
He is not normal. But I think his physical activity is a big reason why he has done so well with cancer treatment.
He talked to what he calls an “old man” that lived near him. That guy is in his late 80s and walks a few miles every day rain or shine. The old man says he does it for one reason. When he stops he knows he won’t be able to to do it anymore. So he just keeps going.
Don’t get to comfy with the E bike. Fun toy but don’t get soft. I’m sure your golf game helps keep you moving.

I sourced a few e-bikes factory direct to resell and of course get my own bike without paying retail. As with most things in China there are only a few factories producing bikes. Mine came from the same factory that two of the big names in the hunting market source from. Literally the exact bike without the logo, LOL. M2S has some good bikes that don't have the markup that the hunting companies have.
They are awesome for hunting. Get a mid drive motor if you have any hills.

I (finally) got my e-bike today. Fed Ex had screwed up the delivery and after repeated efforts finally located the bike at their warehouse. I decided to go get it......and then did the assembly at home. Everything went real smooth.....and I did take my time with it. I suppose I could have done the work in an hour......but I installed a few optional parts and putting the rear rack on was time consuming......as your supposed to take the rear wheel off......but I decided to do the rack with the wheel on.
It was super windy today.....but I took it for a spin anyway. Was no problem riding into a 40 mph wind at up to 20 mph or so. That feels pretty fast on a bike. Not much for hills around here......so the 500 watt motor and single speed set up are just fine. My bike is a class "2" e-bike .....which applies power when you pedal and / or when you twist the "throttle". I have 4 choices of power "strength" to apply to my pedal efforts and find that two or three is my happy place when riding about. Four is for going faster than I like.
I use the twist-grip throttle to speed up after going around a corner......and sometimes from a dead spot........or if I am a bit lazy and dont care to peddle for a stretch - like into a stiff wind.
Pretty happy with my choice for here in OZ. I may need "gears" and more watts if I was in hilly country.....but I am not. The folks I talked to said they never used their gears when riding....so it seems silly to add complicated stuff when you wont use it.
The bike was 1,099 which included the shipping. I added a more comfy seat, rear rack and a kick stand for a another $125 and had to pay sales tax. Did allot of research.....and this Rad gets high marks for a direct to consumer bike. I think another good one is the Himiway. Mine seems like a very well made bike (called Rad, Mission model) and allot of bang for the buck.
Some of those fat tire bikes with 750 watt motors and gears.....look like they would be perfect for hunting.

So.....I ordered a RAD e-bike for here in OZ. I just want one to ride around our neighborhood and want to keep the price down. It's flat as a pancake here.....so multiple gears and high output motors and high speeds are not of a big concern. I just need to get a light workout and go cruising without busting my fanny or spending allot of money. I found that the RAD bikes are of great quality and they have a new model in a single speed available for a good price. So....I bought one. It will ship on Monday and be here a few days later. It's called a RAD Mission. There are some cheaper ones.....and lots that cost much more......but this one checks most of the boxes for my purposes here in OZ. Been thinking along some other lines for a MN E-Bike.....where I would like the off road, fat tire machine.....which would be fun for trail riding and hunting. More study required.....but if the e-bike I ride here is appealing.....I may do more research on those fat tire bikes. Those fat tire ebikes could be allot of fun for scouting and for hunting too. I lack the energy for long hikes on some trails....but these bikes seem like it would be fun. Prices have come down on good stuff. For off-road and trail use.....check the RAD Rover E-bike. (google it). Anyone have one? Some words of wisdom?? I bought a "limited edition" Rad Rover e-bike. They make em in green once in a while. Mine is en-route to my place in MN. I think it will be allot of fun. It's got 4" wide fat tires and a suspension fork. They are the most popular fat tire bike in America right now.....and they kinda invented the fat tire market. Been riding here in OZ quite a bit. I ride about twice as long as on a pedal only bike.....and get a fair work out. Saves my knees and ankles which aint the best these days. I think the Himiway is as good or better.....and its a bit cheaper.......but I'm on board with the RAD as its a bit more proven over time. Mine is the 5th generation of these fat tire bikes.....and they got most of the kinks worked out.

I'm not ready for an E-bike yet but my schwinn is about done for. I've been shopping around for a new but finding something stocked just isn't happening. I've been looking at trek's mainly and the nearest dealer who had one is over 175 miles away. I guess the schwinn will get even more miles.

I tried riding bikes in AZ because the wife wants to do it. Had to put a tractor seat on the damn thing to make it a little more comfortable for a fat guy. Nope didn’t work. Riding bikes with a better seat still sucked.

They are street models. They are good bikes with the preferred crank motor.......but they also cost 2x what I paid for this bike. The big name brands are good stuff.....but costly IMO. Not sure they are worth it....compared to going the manufacturer direct route. My e-bike seems well built and has all the features.

Riding bikes with a better seat still sucked. Getting a good gel seat is helpful.....but getting it adjusted to fit does take some time. I find that adjusting the seat front to back is a bit of trial and error. The bike in OZ does not have a great seat but it's adequate for me. I plan to get a better seat (with springs) for the bike in MN.

I had a Trek mountain bike when I was doing triathlons and absolutely loved it. It's amazing how much performance you can buy in a bike. People that I could out swim and out run all day long would beat me by a big margin on the bike leg. I refused to spend $3-5k on a bike and ultimately quit tri's because of it. I wouldn't be afraid of being a long ways from a dealer with a bike. Bikes are easy to work on yourself, not like if you have carb problems on a saw or if your UTV is electronic fuel injected.

^. I was reading on the inter webs that one of the new business models is for MOBILE BIKE SERVICE. Why? because people are buying bikes off the internet and need some service or assembly on them and dont know how to do it. Guy shows up with a few bike tools in a letter-ed up van and does the work in your driveway.....collecting a pretty good price for the service. I would imagine a person could earn some pretty good money either part or full time doing such a thing. Everybody has bikes these days.....and its growing. All the parts are interchangeable. Similar tech.
