When we went to buy the golf cart, I told the girl if I wanted to switch tops with a different model she told me..."oh we can't do that". I said I was willing to pay an extra $5,000 for the gray top. She still insisted "oh we don't do that". I just smiled and said thanks. They r programed and have zero incentive to service a higher end client. I've told every salesperson I've dealt with that I'd be writing a check for the total price. None have expressed any interest. They'd all much prefer to pass me off to the sales manager who'd be "more than happy" to finance my purchase. I haven't directly communicated with the Polaris dealer in Holdingford yet. I'm hoping that when I do, I can actually talk to a person who can cut through the bullshit and get me an out the door price. If not, I may just keep my money and spend it all on beer

On my ATV purchase,, I'm thinking about trying to "tip" the sales punk $200 in an envelope if he/she get me all the features and price I'm looking for.

My SIL has made several deals on this stuff at Meis. They are about the biggest Polaris dealer in the area. Not sure whom he does biz with? He seems to like these guys.

Even Walmart won't sell a phone for cash, they want the finance. Easier to talk someone into a $8 jump in monthly payment than a $200 more expensive device.

Here in OZ....lots of folks are buying cars from places like Auto Nation, Costco, and similar (names escape me) 3rd party sellers. The prices are low, the deal is fair, you can order what you want, and they will even deliver it to your home on a truck. They also buy used cars at fair prices. Lots of people don't want to go thru the buying process. In these larger delarerships the sales guys are (mostly) idiots and aggressive as can be....while knowing nothing. Lots of games being played. time consuming to find a good person to work with. I used to enjoy making a deal on a new vehicle.....now I detest it. I've been watching the ads for Carvana and laughing...but am now coming to understand that such car delivery/sales systems are the likely new "norm" I could order, pay for, have delivered, and return (if unsatisfied) a vehicle from Buffalo, MN. They'd have it here by Monday if I wanted (assuming it was inventoried). It gets pretty tempting to just go that route. Right before Covid Volvo opened a huge heavy equipment refurbish shop in Vegas. They pick the best lease turn in units, send them there and make them look new. Dealers around the country then sell those machines with only pictures and the machine is shipped to you. You then had so many hours to keep it or turn it back in. Seemed crazy to pay 300k sight unseen but the price and warranty was so attractive that people were doing it. The only real risk was I think you were on the hook for shipping if you returned it. Times are changing

Dog the extended warranty if you want. But, I got the super duper third party warranty when I bought my 2013 Durango (used). It’s the only time I’ve ever done so. It has paid for itself double.
It worked out for me this one time.

I got a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon. The last Jeep I owned cost me about $7000 in non-warranty services just before I got rid of that turd. All was electronics related malfunctions. You can bet I will buy an unexpended warranty on this Jeep.
Jeep (Chrysler) and electronics are a known time bomb.

I bought extended warranties a few times. Never paid off. Seems the vast majority of "expert" advice is to skip the warranty. How much would an extended warranty that would have covered your expenses ( Foggy) cost?

How much would an extended warranty that would have covered your expenses ( Foggy ) cost? I believe I could have bought an unlimited milage lifetime warranty for $1500. I've never bought an extended warranty.....yet. But I may do so with this Jeep I got. Some of the electronics are super pricey......and they got a boatload of that stuff. I think I can buy an 8 year 80,000 mile extended (bumper to bumper) warranty for about $1600. The head unit in the radio could cost that. I got electronic sway bar disconnects, electronic transmission and speed controls and lots more. My old Jeep was a Grand Cherokee Overland......and the air suspension module was acting up as well as some other stuff. It was a nightmare at the end. It was a great vehicle until I got 100,000 miles and the warranty expired. I was afraid to leave town with it.

If memory serves me, my unlimited mileage, power train warranty was $1,200 through a third party.
I have a $100 deductible. Repairs (electronic mostly) that I’ve had done in this POS have been way more than that. I quit counting years ago.
The most recent repair was the thermostat that died on my Duluth trip. That repair cost me $100. On a side note, remember when the thermostat was a ten minute repair? It used to just be right there on a hose at the junction with the radiator on every old vehicle I had. In the Durango that son of a bitch is buried.

Eventually the cost of the repair will be more than the vehicle is worth and I bet they will just total it. I haven’t read the fine print that far.

We know it's gonna cost some money to keep it running safely, but it isn't worth much for re-sale. When I look at spending $35K on a used F150 it's easier to keep dropping a couple grand a year to keep the Chevy going. I suppose if I could get a bumper to bumper extended warranty (without a whole bunch of fine print excluding a whole bunch of stuff) for $1500 I might do it. I do still believe that extended warranties are nothing but profit for the insurer most of the time. They aren't "offering" those policies out of the goodness of their hearts.

I purchased a Ford extended warranty on my F350 diesel. 8 years 125k miles for 2k. I purchased it at about 30 months it would have been 200 dollars cheaper if I purchased it when I bought the truck. The electronics on the original warranty was only 3 years and diesel repairs are very high so I thought it worthwhile. I will sell the truck just before the warranty expires.

In my case, they quoted me double what I ended up paying on for the warranty. I was very impressed with myself that day. "Look, you're a 'no haggle' price auto dealership. I respect that, but on this part, I'm gonna haggle. If you want me to buy the thing, I need the extended warranty and I'm willing to pay $x" I nearly shit myself when he said "deal". I didn't ask for enough. I do that all the time.
