Anybody have any experience with the King Kutter 33 in compact disc harrow? I'm thinking about getting a disc to do the work that my drag can't do. My drag can tear up the ground good but if there is plant matter on the plot it gums up fast so I'm toying with the disc idea. Fleet sells this one. I think it would work well in my sandy loam soil. I'm not looking to dig deep just to work the top few inches.

Yes I had one.
You MUST add weight. We built a tray on the front and back and put a cement block on each end. Even added a sand bag with the blocks a couple times. Speed is your friend with that disc. If you putz it doesnt do a lot. if you crank it up and go several miles per hour, it does better. If you have sod, plan to make 30 passes to get things broke up enough(I dont know if its really 30 passes, but you are not going to break sod up on a few passes). Even with weight added, depending on the amount of debris you might have on the ground, it likes to float over the top more than it will dig in. Again, many passes needed, or you need to somehow clean the majority of debris off before discing.
I had nothing else at the time except this disc, a couple drags and a C tine digger. So I was able to do some stuff, but its a lot of work for minimal return.

I have had one of these for years. Sod is tough and takes some time but can be done. Once that is gone it is pretty good. For me speed and taking a hard turn helped Think it was left. But the disk did better on the turn when it bounces and digs in a little better. I did have to add extra weight as well.

We have one, works pretty well on ground that is has been tilled in the past, best when the ground is moist, not good after a dry spell.

There is a rental place about 25 minutes away that has some kind of a disc. Maybe I'll check to see what they have and a price for rental.

I had one of those and we pulled it behind our 4 wheeler for two years. I had a couple of suitcase weights on it. As said, they are not good in sod....but with enough passes anything is possible. I had a couple of issues with mine. First, with added weight I bent the brackets that carry the gang axels and had to gusset those. The, over winter, water accumulated in the tubes where the wheels go up and down.....and the ice broke those pockets.
I gave it to my Son in law and he uses it from time to time on his land. Store it indoors and be wary of too much added weight......or just gusset those "L" hangars that hold the axels.......and it will get the job done.....after a fashion.

Find yourself a used Loyal/Roth disc. Built like a tank. No need to add weight and it does an awesome job. I believe Tarter-Gate has one that is very similar.

The King Kutter 33 inch mentioned in 1st post is $699 and will not do the job any where near what the other discs that I mentioned without a bunch of weight being added. Also the Loyal/Roth uses the same disc blades and bearings that are used in actual big farm discs. I believe Toolin and Bad Brad will attest that the Loyal/Roth disc is the real deal if a person is going the ATV route for food plotting.

I am not disputing its capabilities at all. Just glad I dont need to get one. I spent $100 on my 11 ft Oliver with hydraulic lift.

Loyal is not made anymore and hasn't been for years. I'd be surprised if someone had one in stock yet new even if their website says they do but I could be wrong.
If you can get your hands on one new or used do it.
