What are you running for equipment? Looks like a skid steer attachment? Skidsteer implant yes.. It's a road leveling bar design that I had tweaked for farming my place. Teeth can be rotated up and down. The leveling bar is used at the end of the season to flatten the craters created from the pigs. And with the tracks most soils are accessible for planting. Nice idea, pretty cool you can see your work in front of you. Your soil works up nicely with that bar, perfect for small seeds.

Red wattle and Berkshire are fine eating. Two of the best I’ve had. Mangalitsa also right up there. Those wooly pigs are cool looking. I would love to find some feeders and try them. I know where a lady has just a few of them, but she wanted $. West of you .

Only doing clover this year. Got an acre plot done today on land next to parents house. Tomorrow doing 3 plots on the farm. Total about 1.5 acres. Thats it. I was gonna do corn or beans but decided differently. I keep fighting the urge.

That's the best way to do food plots.

Only doing clover this year. Got an acre plot done today on land next to parents house. Tomorrow doing 3 plots on the farm. Total about 1.5 acres. Thats it. I was gonna do corn or beans but decided differently. I keep fighting the urge. Just finished my plots Wednesday, planted 5 acres of soybeans and 5 acres of corn on four plots. Took me three days of steady back and forth, disk to fertilizer spreader back to disk, packer, then planter. Takes time going between the plots, hitching up, greasing, etc. I should spread it out more but especially with the planter its nice to get it all done the same day once I have it hooked up.
I'm starting to question the time I spend on the plots, its keeping me away from spring fishing, but its all worthwhile when fall/winter comes around and the deer and pheasants are using the plots. Also starting to question planting as much as I do. I started plots with the intention of providing food plots for the pheasants but had to increase my plot sizes because the deer would have it eaten by Jan 1. Its almost like a learned behavior, the deer flock in, I can see 40 at a time in January. Fun to watch but.... Ten years ago I would have corn left in the plots in the spring!!! We'll see what happens now with a more liberal deer season (can shoot two deer in this zone) for the second year in a row. Now I'm figuring out that I can put out pheasant feeders using cheap shelled corn with wire around them to keep the deer out. For the money I spend on fertilizer I could buy a lot of shelled corn!!!
We will see. Now its onto putting up my electric fence to keep the geese out. They're getting to be a bigger and bigger problem.

Well I don't have a deer plot any longer, but. My garden got spuds and onions a week ago. Yesterday more spuds, sweet corn, squash and beans. The neighbor lady can't take care of hers any longer and said we could use it. It's small but it will get tomatoes, ground cherries & zucchini.

I usually plant on Good Friday.

I'm hoping to plant an acre and a half of corn and an acre of soybeans tonight and then I should be done until brassica season arrives on the 4th of July. Well I guess I also have to plant about 1/2 acres of pumpkins too around June 1st, but that shouldn't be too bad. I already planted about 8 acres of CRP blend this spring, so it will be interesting to see how the CRP impacts my deer hunting success. It wasn't fun planting 12 acres with my crappy equipment, so CRP seemed like a good way to cut back.

I was up in Duluth and the opportunity arose for a quick trip to my place. I took care of a couple of camp chores and also took the opportunity to plant some pumpkin seed. I put them in between the rows of trees and out through my best soil. I put little survey flags in the ground six paces apart. Then, I used my 15LB iron crow bar and poked little divots next to the flags. I use a 5' length of PVC pipe and drop a couple seeds down in each hole for the next pass, heeling them in. Then, I spot sprayed a circle around each planting with glyphosate. Finally, I shook a couple tablespoons of 10-10-10 on top of each. I probably could have poked a hole next to the seed and put the fertilizer in there, but the black gnats had me losing my religion pretty quick. The soil temp was 60 degrees a couple inches down. Yes, I got a soil thermometer. With high temperatures forecast in the high 70s and low 80s next week, I think the dirt's going to warm up quick in the next few days. Pray for rain. If you look close enough, you can see the flags. This spot gets solid sun from the South and holds decent moisture. I know the picture makes it look like there is nothing for the spray to kill, but there's stuff there. I'm probably way to early. Action shot.
