In the next 2 weeks, the first cool day we are going to try to take a doe or two up at Otter Tail. Anyone else going fir a doe early in the season? We want to shoot a doe and a fawn, but prefer the fawn in rifle season when they are a bit bigger. I am keeping early antlerless in mind, but doubt I will hunt. November or December fawns are hard to beat on the table. I might try to arrow an early doe at my place if there aren't any big bucks around. So far that seems likely.

People who don’t like venison need to try a fawn. Too many of those old bucks taste like crap.

I can’t shoot Bambi. Too cute. I think I've killed 5-6 fawns since I started hunting 40ish years ago. Each time I did so I felt like shit. Just can't do it anymore

It doesn’t bother me a bit. Well, maybe just a little, but we like to eat them and we have had plenty of Deer the last few years.

Walking out of the woods with a gutted fawn over the shoulder is the only thing sweeter than shooting a big buck and having it run towards the road.

I would rather have angus. No doe(or fawn) for me. Unless.... any wounded deer I see will take a dirt nap.

I hunted 18 days last year before seeing a deer on our land. We’re still 4 point or better buck as our guidelines.

Limited doe harvest helps, and it’s great practice and mind set for a hunter (archer or gun). The anticipation of the shot, Tracking, cutting up the deer, I enjoy all that . Just not the gutting part ! Let me add…that I do like the meat as well .

If MN moved the gun season back 2-3 weeks, would doe harvest also decrease along with buck harvest? (not that I think MN will move the gun season anytime soon)
This discussion came up on Missouri Whitetail. Interesting topic

I doubt my wife and probably my daughter would hunt. The few remaining northern camps would probably just close the doors.

nothing that decreases any harvest will ever happen in this state.

nothing that decreases any harvest will ever happen in this state. Or that improves buck age structure.
