I pulled all the pepper and tomato cages today. Blew off the woven landscape cloth with the leaf blower. Does anybody spray down their tomato cages with a diluted bleach solution? I'm thinking about that doing that come spring, and maybe even hitting the landscape fabric.

This is the first year we're growing ghost peppers. My wife brought the first one in that was changing color. Took a bite and she's hurting...lol. I guess we can grow hot peppers here I did a search for hot peppers and this old thread came up. Last year, we grew the typical jalapenos and habaneros, and my wife picked up a Carolina Reaper plant. All of the peppers had great crops. For two years now, the wife has experimented with dehydrating peppers (pro tip, don't do it in your house. It's like you pepper sprayed the place). I've avoided using the dehydrated stuff mainly because we always have bags full of frozen peppers I can use. I was lazy today and instead of going out to the garage freezer for some hot peppers, I figured I'd use her dehydrated stuff. I threw some each of habanero, jalapeno, and Carolina Reaper in a pot of crockpot chili. Holy shit is all I can say. I took a bite and my lips about went numb. Good flavor overall, but the heat is unreal. We don't keep milk in the house because we don't drink it, but I'm going to have to pick some up today before eating supper. I should go to town and find some hispanic folks to accept a hot pepper challenge

A former coworker from south Texas once took me to a real Mexican restaurant and I almost melted trying to eat that spicy food. I don’t understand how it is possible to eat that stuff. How do you freeze the peppers you typically use? We have had marginal success with that, but it seems a shame to buy peppers most of the year when we have buckets of them in the fall.

I know full well it'll burn just as bad tomorrow morning as it did tonight. I didn't pick up any milk, but we had cottage cheese in the fridge. Definitely thankful for that. Our "process" for freezing hot peppers is really complicated. Pick them, throw them in freezer ziplocs, and throw in the freezer. They easily last a year. Sweet/green peppers are a more complicated due to their size and water content. Those you really need to cut up and blanch before freezing in ziplocs.

Most my tomato plants are not putting out many tomatoes. One group of plants planted abutting an ash stump have a decent amount of fruit, and another plant next to a red cedar stump is relatively loaded. Anyone got an explanation? Is it just that the year has been so dry and the stumps hold water? Are the plants grabbing some nutrients from the dead wood?
In the future I may put a log under each plant.

Tomatoes won't bloom or set much fruit when it gets over 90 degrees. If you haven't been watering, that may be part of it as well. I've got the soaker hose running on our tomato patch at least twice a week for several hours each time.

I've got the soaker hose running on our tomato patch at least twice a week for several hours each time. The watering program has been if the plants are wilting to give them some water. No great soakings. Also no fert. Just plant them for fun and give away every tomato.
