I was just curious. Our last deer farmer was an expert of experts of nilgai. We could use some new blood here.

Looking to add a Roll-Crimper to my equipment list. I see some are being made in Marshall MN and you can attach to the front loader......thus should be able to roll-crimp and run my drill to plant in one pass. I think I could roll-crimp this fall's rye....and drill-in t buckwheat in early June......then roll-crimp the buckwheat in Mid-August when I plant my fall brassica and more rye. Rinse and repeat. Wow....what a system!

I put in a call to these folks. Saw their Facebook page. I do want to use my QT loader to mount it in front of my tractor like shown above. Slick Do you have one Tom? Have an idea what they get for a six footer? Went to their site...but there are no specs or prices. With all the shortages and price increases and demand for these....I am going to buy one ASAP.

marshall.craigslist.org/grq/d/marshall-roller-crimpers-and-food-plot/7354640859.html That is exactly what you do to build up your soil. You could throw in red clover along with your rye to increase N too.

Stu....on Thursday afternoon....after lunch......I plan to plant the remaining two acres with the mix stated above. Not sure if you have seen these drills work? You should come up for a little land tour. I could handle up to 3 or 4 visitors for a little ag show if anyone is interested. Free beer too. You could drive my wheeler....so your I the shade and dont have to sweat it.

If you scroll down on their facebook page they have some pics of crimpers. In the discussions they tell the different sizes, I believe they said 2600 for a five foot. I am sure prices have gone up do to steel price increases They did say they make them to attach to front with qt loader mount. No I don't have one at this time, but might be something for the future.

Just watched this video of a guy that used his cultipacker as a "Roller Crimper". Got me to thinking.......what if I had one of those Quick Detatch Plates with the 3 Point on it........and put that on my loader. Then I could attache my 6 foot wide Dunham Culipacker to the front of my tractor / loader. Thus I could "roller crimp" my rye or buckwheat while pulling the drill and planting. Thoughts?
I wondered if this would work in all conditions? Not sure I want to spend over $3000 on a roller crimper

The roller crimper essentially "chops" the rye (and clover) into pieces, thereby terminating most of the stuff. An alternative would be to use your cultipacker, drill in your seed, then spray gly to terminate the rye/clover.

But saving $3000 by using a cultipacer and the effects of my drill to terminate the rye.....caught my interest. The only think I need to mount my cultipacker to my loader os one of these plates (which I could use for other things too).

Honestly Foggy, before you get a roller, I'd try your flail mower. What you run down with your tires will be crimped by your tires. Rye can be terminated by mowing or crimping. Once that seed head is out, you can mow it off, and it's done. If your buckwheat is fully bloomed out, it won't come back either. It may reseed, but the first gen plants are done. It'll be nicer to look at, easier for your crop to punch through, and there won't be any escapes. It also buys you an extra pass to ride the fields in the tractor listening to Kenny Chesney or X22.
