I still don't know what I'm doing this weekend. Ask me three hours ago, and I'd have said I'm not going out. Ask me if I wanna sit around watching my squash grow for another weekend, and I'd also give that a hard no. I may end up on the ground somewhere I haven't set up a spot yet. I just have no idea with the wind forecast. South to southeast winds ain't easy in my area, and I don't want to sit my place with that going on.

Just head out into the public with a bow and fuck around, call it hunting.

My two boys will hunt this weekend. My oldest can hunt alone now. I'll sit with my youngest. Not sure if we will shoot anything.

I think I’ve hunted the bow opener every year since I was maybe 12, 13. Except one or two hot weekends, might have had a wedding out of town as well ? ….In roughly 40 yrs I’ve shot one decent 10 pointer on the opener. Passed a few 125ish bucks.
Like Stu said, no desire to end the season this early. Minnesota is a (1)buck limit, which is great ! Not going to party hunt here either. It would have to be a real nice one to end it this early.

Plenty of does and fawns. A couple small bucks. Once in awhile a big one will show up but it is few and far between according to the cams at this second. I may be missing something. It is interesting. The youngest who hasn't gun hunted yet has two deer with the x bow. The oldest who has shot 7 deer already, two toms and a bear hasn't shot a single deer with the x bow yet. That is one of his goals for this year is to shoot an "archery" deer so not sure what he will shoot. The best is yet to come for us. Corn is just starting to get attractive. We are definitely set up more for late season this year.

Those would be a couple nice bucks for the yutes!
I hope the ones I’ve been seeing keep the same pattern until Saturday. The warmth has me worried though.
Only issue is the biggest one has only been at night. I’ve got multiple pics of him but never close to daylight yet.

Just take the shotgun, walk/scout public land, and hunt some partridge. Beautiful weather to be outside for a bit.

I'm debating going antelope hunting this weekend. It will be an opener. Texted my buddy that lets me hunt this morning. He said it was 106 a couple of days ago to bring water, then he send pics of all the rattlesnakes he's been running over on the roads.

This one showed up today and is right by our stand. But I think he needs another year… fat buck though!

This one showed up today and is right by our stand. But I think he needs another year… fat buck though! I have always felt that hunters should shoot a buck that would make their season feel like a success, on the day of the kill and even months later. That feeling of success might come from a memorable encounter with a buck, or hunting with a special person, or because of it being a trophy. All a matter of choice. I wouldn’t shoot that deer early in season.

I'm waiting for the weather to cool down more. It sure would be nice to have a walk in cooler.
