OKAY.....this is not for everyone....expecially those that are anti-machine or more interested in apples and such (big grin - not meant to offend). But this thread is for those that contemplate or have made some moves toward no-till food plots and how to do it. It's high time food plotters learn what big ag is NOW DOIMG to improve the earth. Learn on. The old ways of tilling the earth are soon over.

Preach it brother! Here's another Buffalo video that you might enjoy. I have no idea where you come up with this stuff. I just watched all 4 episodes in the series. I won’t get that song out of my head for awhile.

I had a long discussion with my nephew who rents the family ag land why I hate when he fall tills. adding all these inputs, just to for the soil to blow away.

I had a long discussion with my nephew who rents the family ag land why I hate when he fall tills. adding all these inputs, just to for the soil to blow away. A neighbor of mine in AZ rents his MN farm to a guy....whom has converted his farm to organic no-till practices. In a few short years the place is totally different. He claims higher yields and he gets organic prices for his soybeans from organic hog growers. I'm told those are far higher prices than cash grain prices. The inputs are less and the income is greater.....and my friend is getting higher rents as a result.....and he is not depleting his land....nor it's value. Win / Win / Win. I'm not sure how many are ready to go organic.....but folks definitely do less tillage than time gone by. More vertical tillage and strip tillage these days from what I read. I dont get around to see the fields as I did in my traveling days.....so I just gotta believe what I am reading.

The guy I talk to who farms west of me has tried organic beans and corn a few times. He bought a chunk of ground that had been previously certified "organic". He took it out of organic production because he makes much more with traditional methods.

He took it out of organic production because he makes much more with traditional methods. Many if not most times, the yields are not there. A few farmers have made it work. I can say the same about organic dairies.

I'm not saying organic is "the solution" here.....just want to point out that ORGAINIC Soybeans are now at $33 / bushel in the USA. Crazy stuff. Are you sure it doesn't pay??? www.nasdaq.com/articles/analysis-its-a-madhouse%3A-organic-u.s.-soy-prices-hit-record-fuel-food-inflation-2021-10-11Lot's of terms here can be lumped together or missunderstood. We have this list: a. No Till b. Organic c. Strip till D. Conventional tillage e. Vertical tillage f. Non GMO G. Buffalo Till H. GMO I. Many other terms for practices of tillage / fertilzers /and/or chemicals employed. these terms can be confusing and can be employed together or separately. Not a one size fits all here. Be careful with the terms used.

I'm not anti-organic. I'm just saying that in order to get a bushel of organic beans it oftentimes requires a whole bunch more land than it does to get a bushel of traditional beans. Organic doesn't mean pesticide/herbicide free. Organic pesticides/herbicides are much less effective than traditional forms...and they have to applied more frequently...and they're more expensive per application. Go look at the organic produce at your local megamart. Price them out compared to the non-organic. Are you going to pay quite a bit more for very much less visibly appealing produce? Around here, people aren't going to do that. In areas with much higher per capita incomes they can sell more "healthy" organic products. edit...I could show you some worthless organic soybeans just west of L.P. The fields were contaminated with hemp. None of the OMRI herbicides did anything to the hemp. The fields look like shitty marijuana fields with some soybeans growing under the weed.
