This deer survived gun season, but gotten taken out by coyotes last night 15 ft from my parents Family room. You can see the drag marks from where they took it down. They pulled it 10 ft or so towards the woods. they heard nothing.... Which is hard to believe! Snow does not look that deep the deer would have difficulty running in it. I wonder if the deer was previously injured or just a large pack of yotes? Your parents sleep soundly.

There really isn't a lot of blood either. I am thinking maybe a large bobcat or single yote or a stray dog.

Did you happen to look at the tracks? Do your parents feed deer? I could see yotes being aggressive in the attack then getting nervous being close to the house. Tracks would probably show a lot of back and forth from the woods to the deer.

They are not feeding at all. However,,, I keep nudging them to do it.... Mom would enjoy it, but Dad is too cheap.... :/ They are 125 miles away, so I cant go inspect the area. I wish I could. I am calling Dad later today to see what he found. I am going to tell him to leave it and keep the rifle in the bedroom and shoot the yotes that come back.

I can legally feed but don't. Every time I consider it I look at the cost of feed and shy away. A $4 dollar 50lb bag of corn now cost $13 and only weighs 40lbs. But to be honest I didn't feed or bait before biden so it's really no different.
Always have a door gun!

I made the same comments/comparison this weekend while talking with my Dad. I wondered how many of the people loading up their carts to feed the squirrels notice that difference or do they just automatically accept it like the price of gas.

Oh well. We all love watching the birds, pheasants, deer, the lone bunny, etc. Automatically accepted, but with some grumbling associated with it.

I feed straight black oil sunflower seed in four, 2 quart hanging bird feeders. I only feed from November through April, but I'm considering not feeding after this year if prices don't come back down. We like watching the wildlife that visit the feeder, but in reality we are probably doing more harm than good.

This is one of the reasons planting corn in the north country is both economical and one of the best food plots. My inputs for corn run me about $130-150 per acre and I can yield 150+ bushels per acre. That gets my cost down to about a dollar a bushel. Corn is allot of work and needs rain but it does produce allot of feed for the wildlife at a reasonable cost per acre. Still, allot more expensive than clover or most other deer foods.

Possible but in the case of wolf or coyote they attack and repeatedly hit the hind quarters until the deer gives up. There should be blood every where. A bobcat gets a deer by throat, hangs on and suffocates deer until it dies. Also bobcats will try to drag deer off from kill site. Wolf and yotes eat where the deer drops.

This guy showed up last night. Not a great pic, but he looks like one to watch next year. Looks in great condition heading into winter.

That's a GREAT return for you dollar! Kind of wish I was better set up to plant and protect beans and corn.

That’s pretty good yield !! Can I hire you to head north a few miles ??
