Stu- That buck is a chunk. It will be interesting to see what he looks like next year, but I bet he makes a pretty decent jump.

This is one of the reasons planting corn in the north country is both economical and one of the best food plots. My inputs for corn run me about $130-150 per acre and I can yield 150+ bushels per acre. That gets my cost down to about a dollar a bushel. Corn is allot of work and needs rain but it does produce allot of feed for the wildlife at a reasonable cost per acre. Still, allot more expensive than clover or most other deer foods. Thatβs pretty good yield !! Can I hire you to head north a few miles ?? Sorry, no contract work. I have found if I rotate beans to corn my yields are good. I typically put down plenty of urea particularly blue Urea as it does not volatize as fast as regular urea. I also keep my soil amendments on the high end as once you build up your base it's pretty easy to maintain. Rain is key though and without rain yields fall quickly. Unfortunately, corn has its downsides, its expensive, the residue is a pain to deal with and it can be risky if we have dry weather.

Here is a survivor. The smallest of the three I was chasing but at least one survived.

Several that I'm pretty happy have made it so far. Fairly certain this is the same deer, just beat up from the rut. Must be a fighter. This is the one that lost his antler a month ago. I'm super excited about him. I think he'll make it another yr if he doesn't get his dumb ass ran over. I think this one has been bedding by the house with a broken front leg. Not sure he'll make it through the winter. He made it through rifle though so I'm thinking he deserves a chance. I think I saw this one earlier this afternoon. He's my number 1 hopeful to make it another yr or 2. Really hope to find his sheds to get a real idea how big he is. On the hoof he's impressive!
