Got ’er done! Weighed 24.7 lbs Beard was 10" Spurs were 1"long I knew Art was really excited to hear the numbers. Eh, Wade, are you speaking about your beard length and those spurs you are now wearing? I don’t quite understand all of this turkey talk. Congratulations, by the way!

Weighed 24.7 lbs Beard was 10" Spurs were 1"long I knew Art was really excited to hear the numbers. Nice job! Big bird !! Thanks, Kurt! It was a really fun hunt. I setup in my West woods with a Jake and hen decoy. Got out there about 4:30. I just cold called every 5 or 10 minutes letting any Tom's in the area know where I was at. There was a couple Tom's gobbling but they were way away from me. Around 6 I did some yelping and Tom gobbled right on top of me, lol. He was close, but I didn't know which way he was coming from. So I did a really soft yelp to reassure him. About 30 seconds later I look to my left and he's at 15 yards walking behind a downed log. I couldn't move so I waited until he went behind an oak tree. I pulled up and waited for him to come out. Well he didn't, and 2 minutes later I decided to shoulder my gun and start standing up. About 3/4 of the way up I spotted him at 25 yards in full strut. He stuck his head up and I shot him. He flopped for a bit, but was dead. Funnest turkey hunt I've been on so far.

Bird down in WV this morning. Dad called him in. We were in the exact spot where dad killed one of a pair of gobblers last year. This bird walked a steep mountain side and avoided the logging road. Circled behind us and then stood 30 ft from dad for 20-30 minutes without taking a step. Since dad gets a lot of days to hunt and has already filled a tag, he wouldn’t shoot him. I finally got a shot 1:20 after setting up on him. He was a very cautious bird. We expect he was there for the kill last year and learned some stuff about hunters. it was a great start to the season.

2 days and 2 birds. I am tagged out in WV. Did something new on this bird. We called him in and he caught me turning my head and spooked. He gobbled at us a few minutes later. We moved and set up 2 more times with a lot of patience and a few hours being killed. On the second set up, dad found the right call and pulled him right to me. I have never killed a bird the same day I spooked him.
