I was buying preference points for a black hills elk tag for a couple years and then forgot. I need to get back on that. In SD a resident can simply accumulate points for $5/year. Last I heard it was 8 years to draw an elk tag.

I'm working on putting a bow mule deer hunt in SD for 2017. im getting tired of the points systems, what a racket. Canada is looking better all the time. sorry, the quote was suppose to be for Coop, new site is a little different.

I may apply for Colorado this year. I have 12 points. That gives me about 30% chance of success in the unit I want.

I'm trying to get a WY speed goat hunt together for this year. Thought about an elk hunt but going to hold off on that I haven't been able to get in touch with my brother yet, he works jacked up hours at the mine and has total shit for cell reception out there. I will try to get in touch with him again later today. Great avatar pic Kaleb!

I originally started my manufacturing career making mining products. I got go underground several times and still have much respect for people in that biz. So I'm always interested when I hear the word mine. Most people have know idea what it takes to make a light switch work. If he is out west, he is most likely working in a strip mine of some sort.

Coop (or anyone else reading this), do you use any of the services like Gohunt? I know there are a couple others out there. I need to figure out places to start applying.

I have only applied to Colorado and Wyoming. I've never hunted Wyoming before but my dad did several years ago.
If you read on Bowsite, everyone talks like Colorado is too messed up to build enough points to make the draw. You will see the term point creep which means the points to draw a unit climbs faster than you can gain points.
That might be happening but if you don't start now, you will never be in the game.
I have 12 points in Colorado. I plan on applying and hunting a unit that I've hunted before. I will probably never get to draw it again but I will continue with the point system.
There are units that require less points such as 3-5 points for a non resident. After my one last big hunt, I'll focus on the lessor units.
Colorado applications are always due around the first of April.
