Would I be the only one that believes deer meat is better from a certain area (state, region) ??
I am sold on the difference between Minnesota and Iowa. Seems to be better tasting and more tender from the IA…Not saying Minnesota is bad.. not at all.
My friends, and both my boys have noted the same thing . Curious if you guys have noticed any differences?

Most deer I have eaten is from OTC and at home. OTC is lots of ag. At home lots of feeders. I havent eaten deer and noticed anything more "fowl"..... not to mention, I dont cook a venny steak without ample seasonings or marinade. Give me angus any day of the week.

Feeders at home.... as in feeders in Big Lake all over my neighborhood. So the deer have it pretty damn good year round.

I talk to guys that hunt up north. When they gut the deer, corn in it … even though no corn feeders!

Not sure on taste, but my BIL lives in Northern Wisconsin and I can say their deer meat is a darker red than our deer meat in south central Wisconsin.

I've found deer can taste different from one animal to another in the same region.

An area I used to hunt was mostly swamps surrounded by crap soil that supported a few hay fields at best. The deer meat from there was on the richer side. (The deer there always had a thick layer of fat too.) I preferred the richer meat and would say it was better, others think the opposite.

For decades, I have felt that Minnesota deer from a more northern wooded area were fatter than those from the ag country where I live. We haven’t had any of those northern deer for the last few years, but the deer from where we live have been fatter the last two years. I suspect their nutrition has changed down here.

No doubt that the food available has a huge impact on the meat taste. Tho....not sure if buds taste better or worse than grain. I suspect grain fed deer gotta taste better.

My old place was big woods and no agg. New place has a lot of nearby agg. I can’t tell any difference.
Neither place had the brutal winters of up Nort.
