I have one trail came, I think. It has been in the closet for about ten years, unless we threw it. We all have different interests. Enjoy what you have! We started improved elderberries at camp. If we can't have venison, we'll have pancakes and liquor. If you sit outside at night and listen.......do you hear lots of howling wolves? How far away? Friends that hunt just south of you say the wolves are howling much of the night I forget how many deer a wolf kills each year....but it is quite a few. I think we know a huge part of the problem. Wolves or deer. And at this point we have chosen wolves. Not sure why....as they provide no benefit to almost anyone. Prove me wrong?

Lots of chatter in the hood about people seeing them, but I haven't seen proof. I do hear what I think is packs of coyotes yipping at night, and not far away. I think last weekend they were just behind my property at night having a yip fest. And we heard them many nights throughout gun season.

If you hear wolves howling at night.....you will KNOW they are wolves. We used to go "howling" up the old grade road to Longville at night. We would stop the truck and howl like a wolf....the best we knew how. Most often they would howl back. Kinda an un-nerving event. Fun.

They were my JPS kinfolk having fun and entertaining visitors. Entertainment is different in the north country. Besides, we have too few wolves anyway. Just ask any Karen.

My north neighbor swears they're seeing wolves on a 40 they own on the other side of the highway, maybe 2.5 miles due north of me. Says an Irish Setter looking dog is running with them. If they're that close, I'll see them sooner or later. My guess is that it's a pack of wild dogs.

A wolf pack would shred a wild dog.

A wolf pack would shred a wild dog. My thoughts exactly. When the guy told me an Irish Setter was running with "wolves" I had to keep from laughing. He's serious about what he thinks he sees

I hear about cougars most every year I think. I did see a big male bobcat last winter that made me do a doubletake. I don't doubt cougars passing through from time to time.

I don't doubt cougars passing through from time to time. I have had reports of cougars around here several times over the years. Just this year I saw a game camera pic of one here in Nisswa. It was posted on Facebook. No doubt it was a cougar....and there were a couple of clear pics. About 7 years back....a cougar had killed some horses in Pequot over the course of a few weeks and it was all over in the papers. My neighbor (now deceased) told me of a cougar that was coming and going from the land I bought....and that was perhaps 15 years ago. I did see one when I was into coyote calling back in the 70's. That was in Southern MN along the Cottonwood River early one morning. I had just finished calling.....and was walking back to the truck....when I saw what I first thought was a golden retriever...it was maybe 50 yards.....and I saw it as I turned a corner along the brush and field edge along the river. When we locked eyes.....that cougar went flat to the ground, spread eagle, and just stared for a few seconds....I thought that was an odd thing for a golden to do....when it then turned as I saw that distinctive tail....and he/she quickly disappeared into the bush. No doubt it was a cougar. They happen in MN.....just pretty elusive and stealthy.
