As I type this there are a number of hens and poults in my backyard maybe 10 yards from my window. I see them at least daily. I could shoot one in the head pretty easily with a .22.
Does fall turkey eat pretty good? I believe I can buy a turkey license over the counter for fall in MN, right? Either sex? Worth the cost of the license or should I just go buy a Butterball?

Haven't found a recipe I like yet. Maybe brining them beforehand works? I didn't try that yet. They are always pretty tough.

Looks like $26 to shoot a fall turkey. That should buy a decent sized delicious Butterball. No need to give the MNDNR any more money than I have to

I've been eyeing up the poults that I see daily. I figured they'd be tasty little bastards if I brined them like I do our chickens. I'm not paying damn near 30 bucks to find out I guess.

Don’t roast a wild turkey like a butterball.
Cook breast separately. Legs and thighs must be slow cooked.

I buy tags for the hunting experience. I eat what I shoot and I’m. 100% certain I could cook any part of a wild turkey and anyone here would enjoy eating it.
I wouldn’t buy a tag and shoot one just to eat.
I could shoot one just to eat and do it for free on my land and I never do. Unless you are on a major free range meat kick, buy the butterball of you want turkey.

For me, the fall hunt never interested me. you shoot one because they happen to come by for the most part. Spring is great because you can talk with them and coax them way more. Just a much more enjoyable experience in spring when mating season is going on.
Fall hunt isnt nearly as exciting to me. My 2 cents.

Most of the avid deer hunters around here agree. Far more than the pheasants or partridge that we have and people are allowed to shoot only one.

I don't hate turkeys like you do, but paying damn near $30 to shoot ONE of the things seems like a rip off.

Deep fried beer battered Turkey nuggets. Better than McDonald’s. Tenderize them with jaccard, shore lunch beer batter. 3 minutes at 350 degrees. Perfection. Brining and smoking the breast isn’t bad either. But I prefer the nugs.
