I'm toying with picking up my trees from NCR this week. I can't come up with any reasons to not plant them this early, can anybody else?

I'd do it now if the group is good and you have the time. Beats working when the bugs and ticks are out.

Would a hard frost hurt them? That would be my concern.

I guess I would not hesitate, my plan is planting some next week.

Would a hard frost hurt them? That would be my concern. No, they're dormant now and it will take quite awhile for them to wake up and push new growth.

Marv was digging up north over the weekend. Said it's ready up by us. I'm going to this weekend.

When I picked plugs up from Itasca, I moved them in and out of them garage to let them acclimate. They had some new growth. If the plugs are pulled from the containers, you can not doe this, but must plant right away?
I am hitting frost down about 5 inches in some areas where the grass is mowed and no frost in other locations. this is in Morrison county. SD, I wanted to drop some fruit tree spikes in in Cass County but was not sure if the frost would be out by Saturday. Did Buck check it in several locations?

All he said was where he wanted to plant it was ready. I have to imagine it'll be ready. It's just gotta be. I can't tolerate one more week of winter delaying the start of spring. I may get in some trouble in one spot, but if it happens, it happens. I've got other spots for trees, and I can always buy more later to come back and finish the job.

Have any of you guys caught the fact that Itasca is asking for 2 weeks notice to be able to pick up your trees? Maybe there aren't too many that go there to do that. But if you do and haven't called, you'll want to make the call sooner. Marv told me I was an asshole for planning to plant this weekend when I brought it up ten days ago. Yesterday he told me to try and get his trees yet this week. I think there's a slim chance that happens at this point. I haven't been able to charm any wiggle out of the new girls since the buyout.

Are they still selling small orders? I had given up on them after the sale.

You have to order at least $150 now, and they no longer sell the containers they're in. They're all going to be bundled and wrapped. Now, I will say, they did make an exception for me yesterday to get Marv's trees ready by Friday.
They are almost out of everything though. I think last I looked, you could get a bunch of 4a balsam fir and white spruce, otherwise, most of the rest was toast.
