Riggs- How do you prepare those tullibees prior to smoking? The ones I've eaten are delicious.

I plan on soaking them in a salt water/ brown sugar brine overnight but I haven't had a lot of experience. I'm hoping to find a good recipe from someone. The other times I've smoked them they always turn out to salty.

Pic of it on my dad's arm after the kid caught it (he's 6'3" and lanky): A couple of pics of the mount. For perspective I can get three fingers in the mouth with it only open part way, and the tail fin covers most of my hand. It was truly a beast of a fish. I'm still wondering how you are growing such great fish in small/shallow water...

BEAST of a crappie! Thanks for posting a pic
Lots of potential with these waters. It will be fun to see how far we can push them.

Very similar to "It puts the lotion on it's skin or else it gets the hose again" except it goes like this.... "It eats the pellets MNFish spins, or else it gets the spear again!"

Good stuff!!!!! I might eat them with a nice chianti and some fava beans too. Pellet feeding won't happen until around the middle of May. Sometimes like last year it will start a little earlier. Tundra waters takes awhile to heat up

It's a black crappie (We sent pics in to the state and the boy got a Master's Angler award. I figured it was a white but they classified it as a black.).

My experience is solely with black crappies. All the fish farmers, here in MN, that I have worked with only carry black crappies.

My experience is solely with black crappies. All the fish farmers, here in MN, that I have worked with only carry black crappies. You got me wondering why... A google search found that black crappie do better in cool clear water that has an abundance of aquatic weeds. White crappie can withstand more turbid or silty water. I also read that white crappie are more likely to overpopulate and become stunted than black crappie. So for small water and larger sized fish you probably want to stick with black crappie. Just in case you wanted to know...
