I was on the Mississippi today, and this veteran came by with a heavily laden canoe and a flag flying on the back. He is headed for the Gulf! I told him thanks for serving. Two Friends identified this guy. He left the headwaters on Saturday . By Thursday he was south of Little Falls.

I would like to paddle the northern stretches of the river, as far as the northern suburbs of the cities. As a kid, I remember my Dad and Uncle talking about paddling to the gulf. It never happened.

Not something I saw but something I smelled and tasted. The past 3 days my local village had its spring festival. Nothing big, bands all 3 days, kids games, parade, of course beer tent, car show, rib cook off & arts and craft vendors. Well I figured what the hell I'll setup and maybe get a sale. Well Saturday was the rib cook off and it was right across from here I had my canopy setup. There were 11 contestants with all different sorts of smokers. Some were already setup and smoking when I got there at 8, others showed up after I got there. It wasn't bad until about noon when they started opening up and putting rubs and seasonings on the ribs. Them let me teel you about the smell, WOW. I had to sit there and take in all this goodness. At 3 was the judging, there were 4 judges and samples for everyone to try and judge. Most of the people smoking brought samples over to us at the vendor area for us to taste test and vote on. Talk about being in the right place at the right time. These guys knew what they were doing. I and some pics but somehow lost them on the phone. Someone was watch out as the rain held off until 3:20 and it came down like gang busters. Knocking the phone off the table while breaking down the display and it falling into a puddle may have been the reason for losing the pictures. But after being in a bag of rice over night at least it worked. The most interesting smoker was an old refrigerator, all painted up like a Pabst can. I've got to say his was the best tasting also. These guys were pretty secret about their seasoning and rubs they used.

nice to see this shit in Big Lake. This pile of trash is sleeping on the sidewalk next to the entrance to Trails Bar and Grill tonight. She had bandaids tape across both eyes. WTF. First worthless POS I have seen sleeping on our towns sidewalks. Wonderful. Sure glad we brought in low income shit housing to bring this up in my backyard. unbelieveable. now we have section 8 housing being built to bring in the lowest of the lowlives. I moved out of Andover 22 years ago to get away from bullshit. Its following us all.

BLB...take a ride down to Sand Dunes SF to see many homeless not far from you. The dispersed camping rules get abused there and they just rotate around the Forest. After talking with the local CO a couple of years ago it really stuck how so much of his work is dealing with homeless in the area, and how much he does not enjoy that part of his job.

I go by Sand Dunes often..... Where are these camps??? They must be off the road aways. I have never seen a tent from a road. And I should add, 2 Big Lake cops stood talking to this POS for about 30 minutes and left. Mind boggling stuff.

Gravel dead-end interior roads. They don't use tents too often. More like old RV's or enclosed trailers or beat up cars. A guy changed his engine in his RV in a Forest gravel parking space a couple of years ago. It was an ugly mess. If they move every 13 days they can live there all summer rent free.
It can fuck with my camping during hunting season. The LEO's start with a chip on their shoulder as they are so used to dealing with the dirtbags.

The guy belongs to a group who supports veterans. They have events and donate 100% of the proceeds. This year they are donating to GOTYOURSIXK9s. GY6K9 trains service dog for vets who need them. I am making a knife and donating it to his group to be sold, raffled or auctioned and the proceeds will go towards GY6K9. www.gotyoursixk9s.org/Yes the ribs were great..
