We have trapped about 500 pocket gophers on a 40 acre area in the last 4 years on my property

What kind of traps do you use? That's a lot of gophers.
Does your township have a bounty on them? You could buy a new deer rifle with the proceeds of your trapping.

Badgers make a mess, but work on the gophers. The pocket gophers never took hold thank goodness, but I’ve got plenty of the little striped ground squirrels. Pocket gophers seem to come and go around our place. We work hard to keep the numbers down via poison......but we never really get them eliminated. Just when you feel like you got em licked.....you find large numbers of mounds. (like today). Bastards!

Trapping gophers is one of my favorite springtime things to do when up. I'll get around 6 or 7 every year off the Bertha place. Either give them to my neighbor or cousin and they turn them in for whatever their township gives.

Two seedlings are still holding apples(I picked some from the first tree for cider).

Deer are working the seedlings I got from Grandma over twenty five years ago.

That's awesome Art. Aren't you glad you planted those years ago and are seeing the rewards of planting them?
Between the drought this summer, bear, and raccoons I don't have an apple left on any of our mature trees except the NH Gold that's on the camp lawn. It looks like Gold sitting there with hundreds of yellow apples on it. I'm going to have to drop lots of maples this winter for browse.

Just another reminder to protect your trees with window screen. I got busy this fall (baby) and the week we transplanted trees from the old farm I sunk two trees into my new places yard. I made sure everyone else that received trees (brother, parents, aunts & uncles) all had cages and window screens for their trees....do you think I took the time to do that to mine in my yard? Nooooooo. This past week my Franklin and Red Baron were destroyed by the rabbits. They were painted two years ago and I thought that might be good enough. Wrong! Protect your trees no matter what.

Do you add drywall compound to your paint? I've found that I can leave my seedling ornamental crabs without screen when they're painted with a thick paint mix. I'm not ready to chance it on my grafted trees though.

We will give you a pass this time SC due to Baby Chunk but, don’t let it happen again.
