I have a road the passes through the south edge of my woods and growing along the field edge is Staghorn Sumac. Take a look at this photo and you can see all the damage the rabbits did this winter. I saw seven different rabbits on my place this Saturday. I think its time to get the 22 out.

Rule number one of habitat work: If you don't want it to get eaten, plan on it getting eaten.

Well, the good news is that there can't be an overwhelming number of canine predators around

Considering the big holes I find in my fields I think they are feasting on gophers. Or, the wolves that are getting close to me have scared them off. This year I will be listening for coyotes and if I don't hear anything I'm figuring the wolves are moving in.

Rabbits must be up, I am seeing 2/3 at a time on my cameras. Good eating this year for the owls, hawks, and fox.

Big holes in the field, think of badgers.

Big holes in the field, think of badgers. I never thought of badgers. I figured coyotes were trying to dig them out. I'll take some photos of the holes next time I'm at the property.

We had big holes in field, at my Villard property and a guy asked to trap it one year. He caught a massive badger. I was shocked at how big it was, and it was preying on pocket gophers.

I've got a badger here that makes some monstrous holes. Kind of pisses me off, but I'm happy to have it eating gophers.

Are those cottontail or snowshoe?
I'm glad we don't have badgers or gophers here.

Is badger the same as ground hog? Don't tease me if I'm the only one that doesn't know that.

Funny story I'll tell on myself....couple years ago when i was hunting up at Brad's place I was pumped that I thought I was watching a badger. Sent him a pic....it was a big fisher. Yeah, we don't have either down here really. But no....not the same.
