I received an emailed receipt from Burnt Ridge Nursery, so it appears they processed the rootstock order I placed months ago. I thought they usually arrived a little later than this, but I'm not really sure. I usually receive my rootstock late March so I don’t think you’re order’s early.

I usually request a ship date of the Monday nearest April 15 for my rootstock from Burnt Ridge. Do you plant right after you graft? I usually let my grafts sit in a tub of moist sawdust/sand for two weeks in a dark unheated room for a couple weeks. Then they get moved out to pots or planted. I usually wait until the local trees have fully leafed.

Yeah that’s why I almost always put them in rootrappers and have had to move them inside a few times in late May.

Just got a shipping notice for my SLN order FYI Anyone else order from SLN this year? Update on my order, I asked Connor for a tracking number which he provided. All the tracking number states is that a label has been created. Connor stated he loaded the package on the truck last Wednesday. We'll see what happens, I'm hoping it magically shows up but having my doubts.

My Burnt Ridge rootstock shipped yesterday, so hopefully it will arrive by this weekend. It looks like it should be nice grafting weather.

We’re now due for up to 8” of snow on my land later this week. I’m headed north tomorrow morning to finish the last pruning for the year.

Neighborhood flowers crabs are in full bloom. I made my first grafting attempts the weekend before last. I can’t wait to see them this weekend.

I'm sure I could look this up online, but I'll ask you guys since I need an answer for Minnesota.
Do you think we are ready to topwork trees in southeast minnesota yet? My friend is coming home this weekend and every year we topwork some of the tiny crappy crabapples on his farm. We always do this in May with good luck, but I've never tried it this early.
Do you think it will work or would it be a wasted grafting day?

Your grafts have to callous to heal and then push growth. A frost will most likely kill those buds.

The other half aren't pushing anything green yet, so it is kind of early. I just don't want to waste a day grafting on my buddy's farm if success is unlikely. If there is a 50/50 chance I'd probably give it a try.
