I’m pissed at myself. First I thought it was because I didn’t stake it and the wind snapped this young little Zestar. But after close examination, it kind of looks like bite marks in the tree. No window screen. I know better. I preach it to everyone and I’ve been just lazy on it this spring. Gahhhh. Clipped it off and will be hoping for it to try to push some new growth.

On Monday I ran down and broadcasted buckwheat in this rye plot. Late is better than never I guess. Broadcast and weed whipped it down. Hopefully we get rain tonight! I wish all of my switch looked like this Walked to the very back of the piece and whipped my “wildlife opening”. I had frost seeded clover here a few years ago and it is spotty

I’m hoping for 30-40 percent survival on the switchgrass transplant. I did it at the worst possible time. It hasn’t rained since doing it. I’ve watered a bit, but it won’t keep most alive. The water is needed bad down there in the sand. Trees are burning up, clover is dormant, beans are shriveling. Foggy, do your thing!!!

I've learned the hard way too many times to count It seems most of the damage I've had to uncaged/unscreened fruit trees this time of the year is due to woodchucks.

I have one of those little suckers running around too....I've been bringing my shotgun with me the last few times down there to try to get a crack at him!

Woodchucks are no good. My dad is retired and spent a couple mornings hunting them last June from our best treestand where they were digging big holes and wiping out sections of a food plot. I think he killed 5.
He said they are most active from first light until 8 am, but I'll have to take his word for it since I'm not waking up that early for a woodchuck-

My dog killed a baby woodchuck last summer. I find a few holes but didn’t see them much. Since spending more time there during lockdown, I killed 3 in one day. My dog has killed 2 this year. I check the yard every morning before opening the door. An AR is fun for chucks.

My “no till” screen didn’t work so hot with the lack of rain. Going to have to plant some more I guess.

I text my aunt just minutes ago that we wouldn’t be able to swing purchasing grandmas place. On to the next adventure and I’m hoping I will be able to leave my trees until fall and dig them up. Guess it’s time to start getting things ready to move from there.

Your aunt may think the trees are to stay?

Your aunt may think the trees are to stay? My mom made it clear any that could be moved would be moved. Shitty part is I have nowhere to move them too! 😅
