Burtrum is about 8 miles south.
We used to go to Baxter/Brainerd and Alex...we haven't been to either area for well over a year probably closer to two. Osakis is about as far as we go now...that's about 30 miles.

seems like a good number of options overall in the area from your reports.
I guess if we went 30 miles that would get us to Perham and not quite to Alex. We tend to stay 10ish miles roughly when up here. Ottertail, Battle Lake, Henning, Clitherall.

I base our food options on about a 30 min. idea. If we can get there in 30 minutes or less and the food is consistently good, we'll go. I'd much prefer 15-20 minutes, but that isn't a realistic time frame where we live.
edit...Burtrum in the Ranger is damn near 20 minutes if I'm hauling ass on the gravel.

My top two places to eat are Jordies in Bowlus and the Black and White Cafe in Little Falls. The B/W is a bit more spendy but they have unique items for our area.
Overall, we probably only visit restaurants about once every three weeks or so.

We ate at Jordies a couple times when my wife still lived near Opole. Nice little "homey" place. If I don't have at least one restaurant/bar burger a week I get grumpy

I haven't had venison burger for at least 15 years, probably longer. I don't miss it a bit to be honest.

I haven't had venison burger for at least 15 years, probably longer. I don't miss it a bit to be honest. Our venison burger isn’t quite as good this year and we think it is because of that fat old doe my wife shot. Two inches of fat on her back and we did take the fat off of all of her.

Thursday evening and another trip to Fryer Roe's at the Burtrum Cabooze. Thai pork tacos. Darn tasty. We're going to be bummed when the owner of the food truck goes back to work at the local school district in another month or so.

Had a cream cheese, green olive burger at the Bowling Barn in Osakis today. Very, very good. We've been there well over a dozen times and it's always good. I think I've had every burger on their menu. Had this burger again today. Every bit as good as last time. Bowling Barn was slammed with customers due to the rain, but they still got food orders done. We'll be back soon

Where not to eat... We were in Hutchinson yesterday/today. Stopped at buffalo wild wings.... Yay. what a rip off for those quail sized wings they have now. Sometimes you get decent sized ones, but man does the size vary. Why do i do that? I love their sauces, but I can buy a bottle at Walmart. haaaaa I plan to get down to the Old Mill in Urbank soon. They are open again after the 2 year closure due to Covid... It is a new owner, but the new owner was the main cook for the owners that shut down during the "dumdemic". A young guy, and well respected in the area apparently. www.facebook.com/TheOldMillBarRestaurant(No I am not on the facebook crap,,,, it was the only link I could find for them on google) PS - they have deep fried snapping turtle like the original owners. Its fantastic! Its like the darkest turkey/chicken meat you could ever imagine. I like the dark meat on poultry any day of the week over dry white meat!

We haven't been to one since sometime around 2017 when my stepson graduated from SCSU. I don't miss it. Especially now since they've shown their socialistic beliefs and supporting the defund the police movement.

Um, yep. Inspire Brands owns BWW...and they supported/support the defund the police movement. It takes a bunch of digging now, but the info is out there...kinda like Goodyear
