Found a property I liked and dug a little. No hunting. There is a petition process that lets citizens organize and shut down sections to hunting. If 50 people sign in a county and somebody has a nickel or an uncle you could be done hunting your land?

That's bullcrap! The only person that can make my land a refuge is me. None of those three of rules makes any sense to me. The most influence a neighbor has a right to place on me is to politely ask me to do something or adopt a plan with them. Why would those rules ever even get written? Weird!

I have a hard time believing that would hold up in court

You're saying they can keep you from hunting on your own proprty? apparently? Looks like the case the way it reads. I'd call the local DNR station and ask it it's actually closed to hunting.

Wow, whatever happened to personal property rights? Minnesota is so ass-backwards in some of its laws it's not even funny.

If 50 people sign in a county and somebody has a nickel or an uncle you could be done hunting your land? Where is this documented, i.e deed? The landowner selling the property agree to the designation? Did the relator disclose this to you?

how many people own a section? Nobody I know.... I know, its BS, but its a small percentage of people other than farmers.
Is it 640 continguous acres?
The DNR commisisoner(Landwehr?) is gonna hold a public hearing?
Quite a stretch if this were ever to happen...... Pretty BS rule regardless. But I sure as hell cant see it ever happening..... Well, as long as I am alive.
Rock on.

I can only imagine what a section of land in Stearns County would cost

The parcel I looked at is 80 acres. The deed says it is part of the refuge. No hunting. The realtor disclosed the info.

Damn that is interesting. I'm sure it's nothing short of an act of God but have you found the reg that describes the process to remove the refugee designation? Could you "manage" the land, not hunt it, to control the vermin like the whitetail deer?
