How many of you guys have planted Currants or Juneberries?
I'm thinking of adding a few to my SLN order. I like the berries and I know the dark skinned berries are healthy for you.
Is there anything difficult about growing them? I have sandy soil which can be very dry but I do have low spots where moisture is good.

I planted one currant in clay a few years ago that has seen slow growth even in a tube. Not bearing any fruit yet

Ordered tonight. I was gonna wait a year. But I’ll find a place for them in my skinny plot. Out in the middle where they will get sun.
Ely Pear x 4 Dolgo x 4 Violi’s x 4
I’m such a sucker to peer pressure.

I planted juneberries about 5 years ago from SLN and got my first fruit this year. They taste like blueberries. I planted them at my hunting property, caged them and let them go. They grow slow and in hindsight I wish I would have thrown down mulch around them to speed up the growth a bit. If my catalog from SLN arrives this year I should pick up a few juneberries for my house since they are good for people to eat.

I went ahead and ordered 2 different varieties as well as 5 different currants. I'll put down matting and tube them, hopefully that will help them grow quickly.

Currants and gooseberries are in the cycle for white pine blister rust if anyone is growing white pines.

I got the SLN catalog today. Does anybody have a trailman that is producing? I have one but am thinking of adding another but was wondering about their apple size and production.
Also, has anybody tried a Bilodeau crab? They sound like a good cider apple.
Anybody else ordering from SLN, what are you ordering?

Violi’s Hanging, All winter hangover, winter wildlife, and trailman. I think trailman is the only one that hasn’t produced yet. Waiting patiently still.

Trailman has produced for two years for me and has grown well.
I have been trying to locate Bilodeau scion with no luck. I ordered one last year which was the main reason for my order and they shipped a replacement instead.

I have a trailman that gets some disease every year and the leaves fall off in August. I believe it is apple scab. I am grafting it to something else next year. A bear helped me with that decision by snapping the top of last year but I have not had an apple yet.

I just put my order in. They were already out of Kerr Crabapple, my guess the deer hunting community bought them out.
Winter Redflesh Apple Priscilla Apple Prairie Magic Apple McIntosh Apple Kola Crab Apple Kaneb Sweet Apple Eastman Sweet Apple Bilodeau Crab Apple
I have a few others coming from Starks, Turkey Creek and a local Nursery.
