Shot my best MINNESOTA round of golf today at the Pines in Nisswa. Tore up the front nine with a 38....only to hit a 46 on the back for an 84 total. Made a bad decision on hole number seven on the back nine....that cost me a few strokes. Was hoping to get a score in the 70's until that point. I guess that is the game. Celebrating.....those low 80's don't come every day on wooded golf courses. A 38 for nine holes is my best ever score in MN or OZ. Lots of fun to turn in that score. Is my head swollen?

My goal was always to break bogie golf. I did it 3 or 4 years ago at Cedar Creek. 79.... 18th hole sunk about a 10 footer.... i couldnt see the cup due to all the sweat dripping in my eyes.

A 38 is damn good for 9 (so is a 46 for me). I've never played 18 without blowing up at least one hole and ruining the whole damn day. Like you said "that is the game".
Good job. Those are scores to be proud of.

I got to try golfing some day. Sounds like fun. I played a few rounds here and there while I was working.....but never got serious about golf until I retired. Never had time for the game. I sure wish I had gotten serious about it sooner. It's a great social and retirement activity. I've met lots of good people here at the lake and in OZ thru golf. My wife (whom is not very athletic) also got serious about golf when I did. She now loves to play with her friends or with couples. It does take some time to become an average player.....and its not an easy game to learn. Still....there is such good video instruction programs available these days. I think I learned more from watching video than any other method. (TopSpeedGolf.com is my choice for video lessons. $50 / year will give you more instruction than you can absorb)

I golfed all the time growing up. Played on the high school team. Best ever on 9 was a 1-under 35 and 1-over 73 for 18. Haven't really played the last 10 years. I'm sure I'll take it up again one day. Practice, Practice, practice. Only way to get consistent low scores. Frustrating at times but very fun as well.

GOLF - a great way to ruin a nice walk!!!!
I don't golf. I swing clubs, hit a white ball, drink beer, curse a lot, throw shit, spend a lot of time looking for that white ball in the pond or in the woods. I play "whack Fuck" - cause that's what happens. The club goes "whack" when I hit the ball, and then you here me say "Fuck" because....well, I suck! What pisses me off about that sport is - just about the time your so frustrated and the round is shot to shit....it happens. That one shot, that one perfect shot that looks like you actually have some talent or skill and its a thing of beauty. You smile and think ....where the hell was that all damn day?!?!?!?
Good for you Foggy - it's always nice to play well.

Not an easy game to just "pick up" without doing your homework.....at least for most people. Always figured that with some fairly regular play you could become "good" at this game. Well.....not exactly....seems it takes a bit more than that. Takes a bit of dedication. It's taken me a couple of years to get semi-reliable at this game. I think most seasoned golfers are "semi-reliable" and can fall apart on any given hole. It can be a real head-game. (Sometimes I even remind my "opponent of this fact - huge grin!)
At any rate.....went down to my old hometown for my wife's class reunion. Prior to the reunion function.....I played golf with some old high school friends. Truly a really nice course. SMOKED some good golf shots.....but also had a skunky hole or two. Still.....had a blast while owning the course that plagued me in earlier times. Felt good! The past few years have seasoned me a bit.....I no longer get as intimidated as I once did when faced with some of these holes or when I get into trouble. Fascinating and challenging game. FORE! Oh....shot a mid-80's score on a course I have not played in many years. Great time. Now is when you begin to wonder - given my age: "Am I peaking and will my scores start to go higher.....or have I got more gas in the tank and can I achieve better things"?? Time will tell.

^ Just reflecting. I sup[pose golf is not much different than becoming proficient with a shotgun, rifle, pistol or bow. Takes a fair amount of work to master any of these things. FORE! PULL! PLINK!

Played 5 rounds in the past week....since getting to OZ. Had a few dandy rounds......and a few sour ones. I sure like this game today.....and then may be gone the next.
Now taking some video interactions form a pro on V! golf.
OH....temps been in the upper 80's until it cooled off to 80 today. Sun shines each day. Wonderful place to bide some time. FORE! (if you don't get your nuts shot-off by some god-forsaken tundra lover. grin)

Played yesterday and shot a 44/45 for an 89. Breaking 90 is pretty good for me.....but now I got my head set on 85 and better.
A guy I played with hit a hole-in-one yesterday......and I got to witness it. Free beer for everyone!. Then we went to dinner....and another guy I know had a hole in one......so he bought our table free drinks with our meal. Yowser! Free drinks are good!
