Anybody get to try Franklin this year? I tried one 2-3 weeks ago and it was a spitter.

I've got two trees, both on b118, both planted in '19. Neither has done much growing. I'm unimpressed with the vigor so far.

Something I've noticed about the Franklin Cider apple is that it got hyped big time on H-T by Apple Man and maya when it was first getting released. I haven't seen shit from either of them for quite awhile, like 2 years.
I have also noticed next to zero discussion of the F.C. apple on the Growing Fruit forum.
I think a whole bunch of us (including Stark Bros) got suckered into buying this variety. I'll reserve my final judgement until (if?) my trees produce fruit, but I have a feeling that a number of my wild seedlings will outperform the F.C. in most areas.

I'm thinking the exact same thing....!

I see they are on sale at Stark Bros. That usually means low interest in the variety. I re-read Bill Mayo's description of the fruit. High tannins...they are going to be spitters for sure.
Just checked Sandy Bay Orchards (Bill's orchard) No posts since summer of '19
Also checked on his and his wife's general store (Franklin General Store). It was for sale on June 3. Nothing since. They were looking to sell and retire.
I think Bill hit his homerun and decided to get out while the getting was good.
I wonder how long Stark Bros. will carry the F.C. now

Franklin Apple was a pump and dump con then?
I kid, I kid. I should go stir stuff up the forum that I'm still allowed to post on.

I posted over on deerhunterforum.com asking about it. A quick search shows 2019 was last time someone mentioned it.

The cider geek group is a tough one to get acceptance from it seems, and most folks growing apples for eating are looking for big, red, crispy, and sweet.
The F.C. is likely going to become part of "apple history" pretty quickly. The only group that may keep it alive are those growing it for deer....and that's iffy

I had assumed it could withstand colder than -32. I have one on my place thats 3-4 years old, I'm pretty sure we were below -32 one of those winters.
