My shipping from Lodholz for a styro flat of norway spruce is $15.40 That seems reasonable, I'll check them out.

My shipping from Lodholz for a styro flat of norway spruce is $15.40 Just talked with Rich from Lodholz. Seems like a nice guy. I had ordered a flat of Norway and a flat of White Spruce. He said the White Spruce didn’t germinate and grow well enough for him to feel good about sending them out , but the Norway look great. I had him send two flats of Norway instead. Should be here this week.

I've got white pine coming. Am interested to see what they look like as well. I'm not expecting Itasca size after talking with him a few weeks ago but we'll see.

I got 500 white pine plugs (their smallest size, 4a?) from NCR a couple years ago. They weren't impressive in size at all. Good survival rates though, at least those that the deer haven't eaten anyway.

Thought about it a few times but never pulled the trigger. My Itasca white pines and spruce (black hills maybe) are doing well in the river bottoms where they get enough sun.

I was just sharing that NCR's white pine plugs weren't anything special.

Saw enough photos of Itasca plugs from people to know that's the route I wanted to go.

How do those little plugs do? They look like they could get knocked over if a decent sized oak leaf blows on it.
They have decent roots though, so maybe they take off quickly.

That’s what I’m hoping for. Volunteers survive starting smaller than that. I’m planning primarily short grass areas targeted. I might put some into a garden plot for transplanting later.

I just got my plugs from Lodholz and at first glance I am not impressed. I tried pulling one of the smaller (4") plugs and it wouldn't come out as a plug, pretty much just roots with growing medium falling away. I'll take a better look at them tomorrow, but right now I'm thinking about growing them out in the flat for the summer and planting in fall.
These plugs aren't at all comparable to the plugs I've received from NCR in the past or the plugs I get from Univ. of ID. I doubt I'll order these again.

Mine came today to my parents house. I’m guessing they aren’t impressive either.
