I returned a dozen flats to NCR today as I had "heard" they'd been sold. The owners told me nothing about the possible sale...other than if I ordered trees now for next spring I could pick them up at the current NCR location. I was also told that they are selling out of existing stock at a rapid pace. I just put in my request for next year.
If you want to order trees from NCR for spring of '18...I'd encourage you to do so now.

Seems like a no brainer to own a plug nursery due to high demand... but I guess I would not want those hours!

Just got an order confirmation for 500 black spruce and 500 norway spruce all in 6a size. Hope they're able to fulfill the order come spring.

I hope the new owners are good people and knowledgeable, because of the convenience less than hour away, and so far they have provided good trees with excellent survival. Like to see them add more oak plugs, maybe seed has been down the past two years?

I have my doubts that they'll remain in the general area. If the new owner is more than 90 minutes from my place, I'll probably be done with tree planting on any "scale"

Did they talk about moving? They have 80 acres up there, I would think that would be part of the sale?

That property is full of buildings. I sure wouldnt think moving the operation would be cost effective and leave behind all the structures empty.

I talked to them about their buildings and the property does not sell with the business. They want to remain on the property.
I understand much of the green-houses and equipment are moveable. The current owners live just down the road from their business so they want to keep the land. Last I talked to them the business was moving to Marshal but that's seems to be developing very slowly.
If I was a young guy it would be a nice business. I wonder what they want for it?

Marshall would not be that bad I guess, seems like a strange area to grow plugs, but what do I know?

I see them work hard and long hours. Much like what our German, Polish, Irish, or Scandinavian ancestors had to do. I give them credit for that.
